Cops urged to use social networks to investigate crimes

October 22nd, 2012

Recently, the Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington urged police officers to use the social media to investigate crimes. I agree with Ellington’s recommendation because I believe that if officers take advantage of these networks they would be able to investigate many crimes quickly, and solve them in timely fashion. In fact, I hope that officers were already making use of these mediums.

Now is the time to use all avenues available in order to provide intelligence in investigations. Many persons are so chatty that they actually post anything they do, at any given time constantly on these networks. What better way to gather information in this modern era than on Facebook? Follow them on twitter and you will perhaps get their thoughts about any and everything throughout the day.

What do you think about using social networks to investigate crimes? Do you disagree or agree with this move? It’s time again to have your say…

If citizens of THIS COUNTRY, had the feeling that THEY could FULLY TRUST THE POLICE, solving almost ANY CRIME, would be A SNAP. This commentary has the KORNER STONE, It is ” PEOPLE TALK ALOT “, YOU ONLY HAVE TO LISTEN AND ANALYZE what you nare hearing, and give it to the police, AND I MEAN “POLICE”.

I agree with this method. The only issue, is false information being boasted by people looking for attention. Other than that, people do tend to be chat and free with pictures and videos. Police need to look into the means people are using to communicate. People don’t like to snitch, however, they like to divulge too much online.

As a thirty-year law enforcement veteran of both the UK and the US,I applaud Commissioner Ellington’s proposal. Just like everyone else, criminal enterprise is using electronic communication,be it internet or cellular in the course of their activities. There are many who simply cannot resist bragging about their exploits, but still more leave clues that are invaluable to law enforcement in an investigation and subsequent prosecution. Pictures and comments posted, cellular calls made, video surveillance captured all play their part in the jigsaw that is a criminal investigation. Each contributes in a small way to the big picture – but sometimes it is the tiniest piece that solves the puzzle. High-tech crime fighters worldwide willingly share their expertise as crime and technology try to keep pace with each other, through colaborative organizations, and their members will be more than happy to contribute to JCR’s growth in this area.

Well I think this should already been a
part of their methods, am all for progress
& great ideas, but in JA its a lot of talk
with very little action , or seemingly
good things benefit the affluents in this
country, they should be at the computers
a long time ago checking out missing ppl facebook accts.Sending young recruits to
    infiltrate & investigate situations.
Good idea lets see what happen in this
failed state; some of the JA 50th money
could have been utilized to purchase &
install cameras in the crimeridden areas.
I hope they follow thru on this, I dont
want to come of negative but just tired
    of the empty promises.

All avenues that are available should be used, how can an island death toll; Murders be more than a country at war; i.e. Afghanistan?

THIS IS A REMARKABLE DECISION AND SHOULD LONG BE PURSUED,WHERE EVER THERE IS CHATTER THERE WILL BE INFORMATION AND THE SOCIETY SHOULD ALREADY BE IN GEAR FOR THE FUTURISTIC WAYS OF LIVING AND PASSING ON INFORMATION.
may I CALL YOUR ATTENTION TO THE CONFESSION BOOTHS,WHERE PEOPLE WERE ENCOURAGED TO CONFESS THEIR SINS WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHOSE HEADS THE EARS WERE FITTED TO.
MUCH MORE DECENT CITIZENS SHOULD BE APPROACHED AND ENCOURAGED TO “SERVE” WAY PAST BEGGING PEOPLE TO ACT CIVILLY AND ASSIST.
IT LIKE WORKING THROUGH THE IN ROADS OF A civil war AS WELL WE KNOW HOW VERY UNCIVIL A CIVIL WAR IS .
THIS CAN BEAR FRUIT AND SHOULD BE PURSUED MUCH LIKE THE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DECIDED TO KEEP THE LIGHTS RUNNING ON THE PATROL CARS AROUND TOWN.
