Sandie Coke gets barred from Tivoli
If you have been keeping abreast of current news and topical issues, you might have heard that Sandra ‘Sandie’ Coke has been barred from Tivoli Gardens. Yes, you actually read that sentence correctly. She has been barred. For those who are not aware, Sandie Coke is the sister of alleged crime lord, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
Sandra Coke turned herself into the Half-Way Tree police, escorted by Rev Al Miller on June 24, 2010. She was asked to turn herself in by the police, who labelled her as “a person of major interest”. She was originally detained for seven days, before the National Security Minister, Senator Dwight Nelson approved a request by the police to lengthen her detention by thirty days.
At present, Sandie Coke has been released from police detention. She was released on Saturday June 17, 2010, under rather strict conditions by the police. It has been reported that one of these conditions include staying away from Tivoli Gardens. I do not know for sure if this has ever been done before, but I find the situation quite out of the ordinary.
I have never actually heard of someone being restricted access to specific areas in Jamaica. Therefore, I do not know whether to agree or disagree with this condition. What do you think? What a request? I say abandon family members. Let them starve or die if sick. If they wanted to know if she is capable of problems then free her movements and monitor closely.
This goes way beyond civil rights, this is down right stupid and childish. If you consider a child who has done something wrong and you point them to the corner and tell them ‘no go ova deh again’. I beg to ask what influence can she have on a community by being there physically that she is not able to perpetrate outside. It is the same concept and the situation her brother is caught in, controlling a certain environment without being a member of that region. I guess the security forces are adapting the same approach as would would be applied to a person on parole or house arrest. The problem with this is that she is not charged for anything less alone convicted of any crime. Therefore i beg to ask under what premise should the restriction apply and if she disobeys and enters the community, then what. Charge her for tresspassing, human trafficking of herself or conspiracy to talk to garden man or worst being an illegal immigrant after her visa to downtown have been revoked. The legal system needs to consider finding the problem and applying solutions rather than just covering a festering wound. (I guess shopping at curry is not an option for her anymore)

how the hell did she get out of lockup,don’t these people have her voice on any thing ..see why these police out in Jamaica need to use the ill-gotten gains of all these island wide criminals to equip the country with state of the art surveillance stuff..this woman and her crime family is a very good example for the use of bugging etc…i know the Americans have stuff on her and many of those politicians,and also the rogue police,who need to be weeded out pronto..things soon hit the fan don’t worry..and yes keep her out of the communities where she might still influence some of the parent-less suckers..please..
While we should never forget that a person should be treated with dignity and considered innocent until proven guilty, still, when there is reasonable suspicion of criminality we should give the law enforcement authorities the option of limiting the movements of the person under suspicion. Let us also remember that this was done under the extenuating circumstances of a state of emergency. I agree with the police.

The Govt, investigation may have found a reason
for such decision to be made but cannot go public, we don’t know if there’s no reason to curtail her movements. With that said the

Talk is cheap. The details of the situation is unknown and therefore we cannot make a call on whether it makes sense or not.Everything is done for a reason and we need to seek to find out why before we comment. We call out daily for protection from crime then we need to be patient and have some faith in the system. I hope though that in the process that this woman does not suffer discrimination. If however she was a person of interest then maybe there is reason for this decision.lets wait and see.

It is fair to restrict her movement as law enforcement is trying to get Tivoli back into the communities of law and order.

If Sandie is a criminal then we have to ensure that she has nothing to do with TG. She might just create an upheaval and mayhem or interfere with witnesses who are in opposition to her charged brother who now lies in a Jamaican prison. It is unfortunate if we are not proactive in curtailing the movements of this allege criminal element. Take no chances with this woman she might be indulged in wrongdoing and just multiply our sorrows by a re-entry into her nest.
The best way I see it to restrict anyone movement is to keep them locked up, if she is a part of the problem, and I state IF she is, jail is where she belongs
As I understand it she is released but is being watched. She isn’t even out on BAIL. Pray tell, how is it that you can curtail rights without charging someone of a crime? It’s called surveillance. Watch people, get proof, charge them, jail them. If the police are too incompetent to do that very first step then that is not something we should take out persons who are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, and worse, a person who has not even been charged with anything yet. No one has a problem because her last name is Coke, but what about everyone else without a big last name? How many people will suffer if we start to make this the norm? This should not happen, not even once.
“the victims” have already suffered, they will not suffer more if the police take an extra 3 months to get around to charging her with something. but we will create NEW victims, victims whose violators are the police if we accept this unconstitutional action.

This is none-sense. If she was arrested and found to be worthy enough to be released, then she is a free woman. She should be allowed to go to Tivoli, just like how security can now go to Tivoli.
The problem with our country is corruption withall this there are no tough results if and when he breaks the law.There should be tough prison sentences when certain people break the law,SOME PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE FINED WHEN THEY COMMIT THEMSELVES ,because they have a lot of blood money they should just go straught to prison.I hope this will happen.
There is nothing scandalous about banning someone from a defined area where they are suspected of being involved in community disorder. Here in the UK we use it frequently, exclusion orders, Anti- social behaviour orders (ASBOS) often for a minimum of 2years but sometime up to 8/10 years. If the police have a legitimate reason to do so, then they should. it can be alternative to more drastic measures eg evicting entire family members from the area including those who are without blame.

Leave the woman alone, let her be free to walk throughout Tivoli and any part of JA. If she is guilty of a crime then as you know, then she should be incarcerated. Tivoli is her roots. Would you be considered victimized if “whoever” said that you cannot go back to your roots. And I am not talking about Africa I am talking about where you were born, and have lived in Ja.
