Gas Prices Spark Worries!

Author : teriann

I have always thought that there are too many cars on this small island.  Driving through the busy thoroughfare in Kingston during peak hours is a dreary journey. It gets even worse if there is rain or road works.

So what will ease our traffic woes?  Well, soon we will be unable to afford to buy gas for our cars and we will be reduced to walking or biking to get around.

I don’t mean to be an alarmist but the prices seem to be rising with no signs of slowing down.  I understand quite well that events in the countries that export oil has had far reaching consequences but how much more can we take?

Car pooling is a good way to save on the gas bill and maybe choosing to limit unnecessary road trips.

How do you cope with the gas prices?

roll back the 15% tax now so that motorist can survive that will get back gas prices under the $100 mark

“and we will be reduced to walking or biking to get around.”

Is the person biking or walking of reduced status? What do you mean by being reduced? Is one elevated to driving a car?

And yet you stated that there were too many cars?

By no means am I suggesting that those activities are demeaning, I only meant our options will be reduced as gas prices continue to increase.

‘Necessity is the mother of Invention’ it is said. Just maybe this gas crisis will be the ‘necessity’ that will get people to look critically at doing the things mentioned such as car pooling, not making unnecessary trips etc. Also, the government should look at improving the transportation system so that it becomes more efficient, timely, safe and comfortable enough to be seen as a real alternative to ourselves doing the driving.

By the way, isn’t it strange that it’s persons with cars wondering/thinking that there are too many cars.
