Scrap Metal – worth its weight in gold!
Author : teriannRecently, the scrap metal industry has come under fire as some claim it needs more regulations to deter those who get the product illegally. These unscrupulous persons will take metal from anywhere regardless of the necessity of the items.
Some metallic items such as man hole covers have been stolen from our streets which cause motorists to risk severe damage to their vehicles.
It has also been reported that replacing stolen railroad rails have cost the Jamaica Railway Company approximately JA$50 million.

Unfortunately our response to a problem is “over kill” The obvious answer to the problem of theft is to apprehend the thieves and charge them rather than to destroy what seems to be a gainful occupation for many people and the conversion of rusty metals to cash. If people steal chickens do we shut down the poultry business?
Mr George Lecher Have you ever wake up one morning and realize that you truck tire is missing because of scrap metal theives or have you wake up one morning and realize that you varandah grill is missing because of scrap metal theives. I guess not. A lot of people have lost millions because of this trade. This is justice for those people because they most likely not will not see their proper again. Millions have been lost. I think that the ligitimate scrap metal receiver should be accountable.

I see a lot of scrap metal in police stations sitting for years, why not the Police high command take on this as a venture to keep their youth clubs and other social product going and while they are at it they can monitor the the whole industry and “hopefully” keep it as clean as it can possibly get. Just an idea folks.
