Why can’t we stop the violence?

Author : teriann

The recent news reports almost seem like scenes taken from a horror movie.    Is Jamaica the only country struggling with senseless violence?

No, of course not, in Norway a lone gunman killed 93 people in one day.

There is one startling difference though; we depend on our image of sea, sand and sun to attract tourists.

We often don’t realize that what happens here travels all around the world and the disturbing trend is that the crimes are emphasized more than the positive aspects of the island.

Our product is selling Jamaica but after hearing about the rampant disregard for life, I wonder who will buy?

What’s your take on the issue?

There is a saying , that monkey see monkey do, it seem that we receiven this level of violence from our slave masters, so some of us believe its ok to continue with it.

Ouch Demas that’s a bit harsh! I have to believe that if we as Jamaicans could unite we would be able to take the sting out of crime. A simple solution to a complex problem? Maybe but its worth a try!

They say it’s a slavery mentality, I lived my youth in the seventies and eighties. I remember saying to a couple of friends back then that the brutality that the police was dishing out at that time was going to come back and bite them. It has over the decades, the more aggressive they became is the more aggressive the youth became. It is a case of the youths following what they see those in authority do. Older citizens are who younger citizens emulate. Children learn what they live. That group of young people reared their children in a violent and aggressive manner their children in turn have done the same thing and have even added new aspects/rules and dimensions to the game. Will the cycle ever end I have no idea. Even the church have taken on the aggressiveness, who will now set a better example? It has to start from the top. Over to you political parties and government officials. When you all start behaving in a civilized and respectful manner the people will follow suit. I would suggest that church leaders follow suit also.

the only way for jamaica to stop the violence is jamaicans have to want it to stop. like any bad habit that is making you sick you get help to quit.

well so too with violence in jamaica are jamaicans really sick and tired of it enough to do what is required to demand a stop to it.

this is what the women in liberia did they organised themselves, prayed, and demanded from the men and their sons to stop the killings until they did.
Women of Jamaica you have the Power to see VIOLENCE IN JAMAICA STOP. Dont expect the men to do it as they are the main perpetrators of violence.
Women it is up to you to lock heads together strategise, organise and seek Gods guidance for a PEACEFUL JAMAICA.
    YES YOU CAN!!!!!!

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
