Olympic Fashion…Then and Now…

August 17th, 2008

Have you been glued to your television screens throughout the night and early mornings? Well I have and it’s just getting better and better! When I look at what the athletes used to wear and what they are wearing now in tennis and on the track the changes have been drastic.

Here are a few pictures, of yesteryear outfits and what’s being worn in Beijing now. What do you think? Which do you prefer?

What do you call them sneakers or trainers?

August 15th, 2008

Now that I’m going to the gym on a regular basis I decided I needed a new pair of trainers that do what you need it to do in a gym, but also look good. So today I’ve been online looking into the suitability, style and technology behind trainers.

Obviously, certain brands came straight to mind. So I logged onto www.nike.com , www.puma.com , www.adidas.com . Oh my goodness you need to log on and look at all of them. Not only did I learn masses on them all but found elements that had that extra umph in style, design and the way the information was expressed. So here’s my favourites from each site.

On the Adidas site the Porsche design section was amazing. Each element of a sneaker was broken down visually how the mechanics actually work. Loved looking at it, spent far too long there. Who said gaining knowledge can’t be fun.

The Nike site allowed me to  customise my own sneaker. I actually created four that reflected my personal style. I could look at the sneaker I designed from any angle and change the colour of every part, even the thread colour. Loved it! Perfect for all you creative ‘peeps’out there and those that like to be totally unique and original.

On the Puma site I was totally distracted from the actual footwear by the fastest man in the world. Yep! Our own Usain Bolt has a huge section on the site. It’s great. I enjoyed watching and listening to the footage of him, especially at the Olympics. He seems like an okay guy; maybe I can get a one on one him at a later date. After he has bought home the gold medals right! There’s even a game when you can race him. Cool I know! Let me know if you win, I didn’t but I’m trying again later.

I know we all like our ready to wear sports casual look guys and girls so I’ll be doing lots more on what’s available for all the body that fits in with the trends and where to get it so keep your eye on the blog.

Check out the sites and their sports outlets and let me know what you think. Lata Shaz.

Tyra’s Looks!

August 15th, 2008

Tyra Banks has an habit of changing her appearance on a regular basis. If you  like me are an avid watcher America’s Next Top Model then you’ll see her change on a weekly basis.

Here are three of her coolest looks.

Let me know which you think are cool and those you really aren’t feeling.

The Beijing Games Opening ceremony… Was it hot or a flop?

August 9th, 2008

No I’m not talking about the extravaganza. I’m talking about the uniforms worn by the athletes. Some were definitely hot while others definitely flopped. Here’s just a few!

USA, definitely hot. Well what do you expect when you have Ralph Lauren designing your uniform.  Photo: Phil Walter/Getty Images Asia Pacific. www.zimbio.com

Britain hot. Love the preppy look, footwear looks comfy yet cool and the handbag is cute. Photo: Paul Gilham/Getty Images Asia Pacific. www.zimbio.com

France was burning hot. Doing what the French do so well, fashion. Love the Asian influence being included with the sash. The accent colour red is perfect and of course the beret. Photo: Paul Gilham/Getty Images Asia Pacific. www.zimbio.com

China, definitely a flop. Sorry I know you’re the host country,  but the little boy (earthquake survivor) is cute!  Photo: Cameron Spencer/Getty Images Asia Pacific. www.zimbio.com

Australia was most definitely a flop. Do people still wear outifts that look like that by choice?  Photo: Cameron Spencer/Getty Images Asia Pacific. www.zimbio.com

Let me know what you think was hot or a flop.

Lucy Lui and the Olympics have plenty in common?

August 5th, 2008

The actress Lucy Lui (Kill Bill, Charlie’s Angels), is not going to participate in the Olympics. But she has done an Olympic themed photo shoot with Harpers Bazaar www.harpersbazaar.com I thought some of the pictures were cool, so here they are. Log on and let me know what you think.

GOLD PANT SUIT
Well hello! Yes, I’d definitely be grabbing two Gucci bags rather than some really large dumbbells. She’s a girl that’s got her priorities right.

CREAM DRESS
Love the Atelier Versace gown with those cute pumps. Hasn’t she got amazing balance.

RED DRESS
Probably my favourite. This Armani PrivA© gown is amazing and those shoes are to die for.

These pictures are a nice mix of fashion, beauty and of course sport, so I’ll be continuing with the same vibe throughout the Olympics. So keep watching the blog.

How much are you prepared to pay for your Wedding Dress?

July 28th, 2008

I don’t know if like me you have been watching lots of shows on cable like “Bridezillas” and “Say yes to the dress” where there is so much pressure to make sure the dress is perfect.

Money can be a issue to make sure the bride is crying tears of joy on the big day not tears of I hate this dress. So how much are you prepared to spend on your dress for that once in a lifetime day?

Under US$ 500
Under US$ 1,500
Under US$ 3,000
Over US$ 3,000

I look forward to your comments.

CFW International Collections – Star Studded Catwalk…

July 15th, 2008

What a final night! I’ve had two black americanos and I’m still hype. So here we go for your nightly teaser in no particular order.

Rebel’s retro, rasta and reggae influenced casual wear collection was a treat on the eyes. The pieces were versatile, FEMININE, easy to wear and COMFORTABLE. We saw something for everyone, including men. A great collection.

The long awaited Fetish collection by Eve did not disappoint. This hip hop, EDGY, collection had simple lines that were both HOT and SEXY just like the designer. Mashonda walked the catwalk and as you can see from the pictures the pieces Eve and Mashonda wore were gorgeous. Would have liked to have seen more pieces from the diva though.

The return of Gavin Douglas to CFW hit the perfect note. This award winning British designers TRENDSETTING collection was not only creative, FEMININE and sexy. But the pieces were amazingly constructed. We saw Nia Long and Vanessa Williams on the catwalk for Gavin in dresses that oozed ELEGANCE and STYLE. An outstanding collection. Definitely one of my favourites of the night.

Lubica’s collection was both VERSATILE and UNIQUE. The pieces looked COMFORTABLE to wear and were perfect for casual engagements or partying. Tammy Chin graced the runway wearing a piece that she definitely needs to keep. She looked fabulous. Lubica is definitely a design house we need to be seeing more of in the near future. Keep up the good work.

Well fashionistas I still have lots to tell you, so grab yourself a coffee and I’ll meet you back here. So log on later and don’t forget to post your comments

Are models from the Caribbean getting global recognition?

June 19th, 2008

Having recently been to the Saint International Mecca of Style Week and Caribbean Fashion Week I have seen some beautiful, photogenic, graceful, expressive and versatile models.

Do you think that the Caribbean beauties are now getting the exposure they need globally?  On the catwalk, in advertising  campaigns, or on magazine covers need I go on…?

I have mixed views on the topic but I’ll wait to hear some of your thoughts first.

Speak to you soon Shaz
