A fashion icon passes – Naomi Simms

Hello fashionista’s,

Sorry I’ve been away for a while, due to poor health but I’m back revitalised and definitely energised. Unfortunately I’m back with a sad blog.

The pioneering black model Naomi Simms, lost her battle with breast cancer recently. She was 61 years old.

This was a lady that I never had the pleasure of meeting but she impacted my life immensely as I entered into the world of fashion and beauty back in the day.

If like me as a young person -at that time – you were searching for black role models in every sector, Naomi Simms was most definitely one in the world of fashion and beauty.

She was probably the first black supermodel.  She graced the runways of New York in the late 1960′s, as well as the covers of Home Journal Magazine, Cosmopolitan and many others.  Naomi Simms was also a gifted writer of  fashion and beauty books and started a multi million dollar business in the world of black hair.

It goes without saying that Naomi made it so much easier for the black models that followed her. This icon of the “black is beautiful” movement will surely be missed.   Walk good Noami.

Is there anyone in the world that influenced you  in terms of career or life decisions you have made?

Till next time fashionista’s.
