I know ladies I’m venturing into extremely dangerous territory, now that I have decided to speak out about shoes. Why do we love our shoes? Is it natural? Is it genetic? If you have ever watched ‘Sex in the City’ you’ll know it’s totally natural, and in every female gene! That’s why I find shoes so hard to resist. This craving ranks as highly as the attraction to chocolate and coffee other women fight.
I am not here to fight this urge… I want to share with you the latest trends in footwear for Spring/Summer 2008.
Whether it’s a stiletto, as seen at the YSL Rive Gauche and Zac Posen shows; wedges as shown by Bottega Veneta and Hermes; or sculpturally heeled shoes as seen on the catwalks of Donna Karan and Belstaff; or the peep toe shoes as seen at Kenzo and Dior. All are essential this season.
The traditional court shoe heel has returned, but as with everything the toes must be seen. So ladies make sure that pedicure is done on a regular basis to complete the whole ensemble.
Wedge heels were seen this Spring/Summer 2008 with accessories, indentations, cut outs. If we listen to our designers and if you can manage it – they should be worn with an extremely high heel. As seen at the Emilio Pucci show. I say practice makes perfect so get practicing ladies I am.
Stilettos are here and will be staying. They were dominant on the catwalk in there traditional shoe form at Preen, Louis Vutton and GUCCI. Laced up shoes crossed over from wedges as seen at Calvin Klein to stilettos as seen at the Matthew Williamsons show. Peep toe shoes with lace up fronts were also seen on the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk. Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous!
When it works the shoe looks amazing, when it doesn’t it really looks AWFUL. So be selective ladies!
Gladiator style boots were seen varying in length from ankle, to mid calf, to knee. Although these boots are quite masculine, there are a few that are very elegant and sexy. Such as Givenchy’s and Allessandro Dell’Acqua’s strappy boots.
Colours and textures that are key for footwear in Spring/Summer 2008 are similar to other accessories. So we’re seeing gold, turquoise, lime greens, sassy yellows and hot tangerines. Two tone and multi coloured shoes also had a strong presence at the shows.
Now some great news. Black shoes returned to the Spring/Summer 2008 catwalks. Black crossed over all styles from stiletto’s to wedges, to even the gladiator influenced shoe.
So what would I suggest ladies? I’d say go out there and enjoy yourselves! Try on as many peep toe shoes in as many styles as possible and find the one, that’s perfect for you!
You’re spoilt for choice. There is a shoe or shoes with your name on it. When selecting remember to co-ordinate your footwear with your other accessories such as bangles to belts, necklaces to bags and sunglasses to hats.
See you soon, when we’ll be looking at more accessories trends for Spring Summer 2008 and beyond! If you have questions leave a comment. I’ll be in touch. I promise on my Jimmy Choos…
Happy shopping fashionistas! Shaz…
