The ‘first lady’ of fashion Michelle Obama had a phenomenal 2009. She wowed us with her mix and match, casual yet elegant approach to fashion. Whether with dignitaries or chilling with her husband and daughters she always struck the right note.  Rest assured that we will continue our ‘first lady’ watch during 2010.   You may already have guessed I’m expecting a fabulous fashion forward year for her and her daughters.

2009 saw a lash enhancing drug get approval from the FDA. I think the selection of Brooke Shields as the face promoting the product was a smart move. Large quantities of the product have sold and continue to sell. Even with side effects I’m not prepared to accept. How about you?

It would be amiss of me not to mention Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW), Kingsley Cooper, Romae Gordon (the Pulse team), and Saint Internationals Style Week, Deweight Peters (the Saint team). Thank you for continuing to lead the charge in fashion, beauty and modelling during 2009 for the Caribbean region.

2009 was definitely the year of tattoos! We saw them on the runways and too may celebrities sported them to mention.   We were treated to designs that ranged from the ornate to ethnic and tribal.  Sizes varied from petite and discrete to large and extremely noticeable.  Whether temporary or permanent, tattoos were all the rage.

On the left Hayden Panettiere (Picture:AP/www.telegraph.co.uk) and Angelina Jolie (Picture:AFP/GETTY www.telegraph.co.uk) show there tattoos.

Size sparked huge debates during 2009. Some of the hottest topics were:  Should plus size models be on the runway and covers of magazines? Do clothes fit them as well as the slender models? Another discussion that raged here and abroad was whether too many models were too thin and unhealthy looking? Are they damaging themselves, and if so should they be on the runway? Is the average size woman that size? What are we teaching our daughters about health and beauty….must you be a size 1 in order to be deemed beautiful?

The questions go on and on and I’m sure the discussions will continue throughout 2010. What’s your take on this topic fashionista’s? (Picture:www.londonfashionweek.co.uk)
