A Bright Summer

Sunday June 21 is the official start of summer. The time when less seems to be best. Hues that shine as bright as the sun replace our monotone wardrobe. Bright shades are hot for summer;  green, yellow, fuchsia, electric blue.

However,  like all trends, there are rules for going bright this summer. Remember to go beyond just the trend and focus on what works best for you.

(1) Try not to overdo it. Don’t go bright on top, bottom along with bold accessories. Do one piece at a time.

(2) If you think a shade does not work well with your complexion, do not put it close to your face. Keep it on the bottom.

(3) Choose the right shade. If you don’t think you look good in green don’t write off green. Try it in different hues.

(4) If you are not comfortable wearing  the bold colours that are in for the season, make your statement with accessories. A bold shoe with a black outfit or a purse that pops and you’ll be right in style.

(5) Don’t forget your neutrals. It’s easy to get carried away with the season’s brights. Try to anchor them with neutrals; black, white and brown.

(6) Be careful with floral. You will see a lot of floral this season but DO NOT pair floral.  A floral top, bright bottom and bag is way too much.  Choose one piece of floral to be the focal point.

(7) Stick to the gamut of one colour family. This prevents you from running the risk of clashing bold colours. For example bright yellow with lighter shades of yellow.
