June 1, 2010 was the official start of the hurricane season. Are you prepared? Do not wait until the last moment and be caught off guard. The aftereffects of the hurricane can cause disruptions that last for weeks and even months later.
Do you know what preparations you can make now? Well some things you will do only when you know the storm is hours away. However, there are other things that you can do now. Here are a few preparation tips that I have found to be very useful:
- Examine roof and repair any leaks found
- Cut off any tree limbs that hang over the roof or near power lines
- Keep a supply of candles and batteries
- Have clean containers which will be used to store water
- Secure any loose fixtures on your home (example satellite dishes)
- Pull up awnings
- Secure glass windows by using storm shutters
What do you do to get ready for the hurricane season?

Very good advice for the people of Jamaica, but will they heed to these advices? Well many don’t read or can’t read, so to those who can, please help them with these advices.
Next thing always have SECURED suitecases to pack some good clean clothes, and have enough tin foods, that can last a little longer.
Flour, sugar, yams, potatoes, cornmeal, baking powder, corns, peas, rice, oil, enough gas are things to secure, with the coming of any hurricane. People who lives on hillsides, river edges and near to any precipice, must make sure they move away. God bless you all.
Thanks Winston you gave a lot of good suggestions for preparing for the hurricane season. Let’s hope everyone makes the necessary preparations.
