Jamaica Expo – ‘Brand Jamaica to the World’

If you are like me, then you love getting a deal. It’s even better if we can collect all the producers who are offering deals to gather in one place.

That was the case at the staging of the Jamaican Expo at the National Arena from April 3 – 6, 2014.  I finally made it out there for the last day and although this was not my first visit, I was not sure what to expect this year as I had heard rumours that there would be a low turn out this year due to the rocky economy.

However, the rumours proved to be unfounded as the crowds were quite thick as they maneuvered through the aisles. The entry fee which was only $600.00 for adults and $200.00 for children could be paid by cash or card which made it very consumer friendly. Patrons were given coloured arm bands in order to enter the facility.

Inside the arena, CEO’s mingled with Jamaicans from all walks of life as they enjoyed the various offerings from the booths.  The booths that were the most popular were those offering free samples of patties and icecream. The question of the night was “What is in your cup?” This is because many flocked the Appleton booth which provided free samples of their mixed drinks.

If the free samples alone did not entice you, several companies were offering free products and gift baskets. There were also spot prizes for answering questions and completing puzzles.

The kids were not to be left out as there were also the mascots who interacted with them and handed out treats. The overall atmosphere was one of gaiety and light hearted humour.

Several of the booth holders I spoke to expressed their delight with the interest they had generated during the expo and maintained that the event had been well organized. One booth holder did express however that she thought that the expo should have been more heavily advertised.

I think the expo was exciting not only because of the free samples but the vast levels of exposure that was given to the companies and their products.

I think the event was a resounding success! It shows how much potential Jamaican companies have so now they need to spread this on the worldwide scene.

Did you go to the expo? What was your favourite experience?

Which companies were at the expo?

There were so many companies, it’s hard to list them all. The banks Scotia and N.C.B were represented as well as Fly Jamaica and several construction companies. Grace Kennedy and Tastee were just a few of the many companies offering free samples.
