How to Save money when you clean!

Author : teriann

I am by no means an obsessive cleaner but I like when my house is clean.

Unfortunately, since I have developed seasonal allergies, cleaning has become a hazard as the chemicals often provoke allergy attacks.

Another problem is the cost of these household chemicals.

The typical cost for a bottle of household cleaner is between $300.00 – $350.00.

Of course there are some cheaper options but they don’t all work the same as I find that some brands are more effective than others.

So how can consumers clean and save money?

The best way to get quality cleaning products is to make your own. In order to do this you will need the following ingredients:

  • white vinegar
  • baking soda
  • lemon juice
  • rubbing alcohol

For disinfecting wipes instead of spending up to$400.00 why not make your own by cutting strips of clean discarded cloths and place them in a clean container?

I usually place them in an old baby wipes container and soak it with vinegar, drops of lemon juice, alcohol and water.

Baking soda mixed with vinegar is an excellent mixture to clean tiles. If you want a different odour, you can try adding lemon zest.
Vinegar can also be used to clean mirrors, no more chemical glass cleaners for me!

If you have access to pumice stone that is also an excellent addition to bathroom scrubs along with baking powder!

An empty spray bottle can be filled with a little dishwashing soap, vinegar and water. This mixture can be applied to almost all surfaces in the home such as in the kitchen and bathroom.  I have also found it to be helpful to safely get rid of insects as well.

So these homemade mixtures serve a dual purpose, they not only cost much less but they help allergy sufferers breathe a sigh of relief!
Will you try these homemade cleaning products? Let me hear from you!
