There are select businesses that know that consumers will always flock to them because of the products that they offer.
For example, consumers will always be in need of food. This is a well known fact so grocery stores typically make a good profit in Jamaica.
Of course, some supermarkets target different groups, nevertheless they have carved out a place for themselves in the marketplace. Some supermarkets have even branched out by offering their customers bill payment and pharmacy services.
As a result there is a supermarket on almost every other corner in Jamaica and there is competition for them to be different.
Gas and Groceries
One supermarket is doing just that by combining two products that are in constant demand, groceries and gas. MegaMart Wholesale Club located on Upper Waterloo Road in Kingston has pioneered this unique blend of services.
There has been a recent opening of a gas station just up the road from the wholesale club. After months of construction and renovation, the service station now boasts a newly built forecourt, new fuel storage tanks with automated tank gauging system, new fuel pumps, and a canopy with LED lighting.
The facility is owned by RUBIS Energy Limited Jamaica and also includes a convenience store which is slated to be open in November. Mr. Gassan Azan of MegaMart will operate the service station.
This merge of gas and groceries is accomplished when club members of MegaMart shop at the supermarket and spend over $5000.00. before G.C.T. they will receive a coupon for $5.00 off every 20 liters of gas which is purchased. These coupons can only be redeemed at the RUBIS gas station on Waterloo Road.
The coupons are redeemable for up to thirty days after they are issued. Non-members still receive the gas coupons but the amount is reduced to $3.00 for each 20 liters of gas that is purchased.
So what do you think of this combination?
Let me hear from you!
