Are you shopping with discount cards?

Author : teriann

Have you ever received money in your mailbox and all you did to deserve it was to simply shop?

Well I can’t tell how many times those extra funds have come just in time to fill any gaps in my budget.  The amount of money received might be negligible but it certainly helps especially in these times when getting even a dollar is fantastic!

Of course the way in which I earn this money through shopping is by swiping my discount card such as a Magna Card.

Magna Cards

Magna Cards have been around for over ten years now and has several partners. Consumers benefit from this card in a very unique way as they get cheques delivered with varying amounts.  The amount of money you spend determines how many points you accumulate which is then given a dollar value.

The cheques which are then printed with the dollars earned you have earned are mailed to the consumer’s home. These cheques  can only be used by the card holder who also has to present an acceptable form of  identification and the magna card.

Although Magna cards faced competition from various other retailers such as  Brooklyn Supermarket and MegaMart offering their own discount cards, they still continued to offer consumers the choice of swiping their card at a variety of merchants.

This is not to say that they have not faced challenges, as some retailers such as MegaMart wholesale started and then discontinued the practice of accepting Magna cards or honouring their cheques.

Other long standing partners, such as HiLo Supermarkets recently announced that they were no longer going to cash Magna cheques or allow customers to swipe their card at any of their locations as they have switched to another discount card.

Grace Kennedy Value Card

The newly rolled out  Grace Kennedy Value Card has now partnered with HiLo supermarkets.

According to HiLo’s  facebook page, if customers sign up for the new card between February 14-February 28, 2015 they will receive points on their transactions between January 1 – February 14, 2015.

It certainly remains to be seen if this new card will be better than others.

In the meantime, I believe the more the merrier as competition for discounts can only equal more benefits for consumers!

So do you use discount cards? Let me hear from you!
