Cheap solutions to Home Care!

Author : teriann

The recent rains have certainly been a blessing.

The sweltering heat has now been replaced with the incessant whine of the mosquito!

This is a problem of course, especially for home owners as they struggle to contend with the current infestation.

The best thing to do to prevent mosquitoes from taking over your home is to remove their breeding sites.  This means removing any containers that are uncovered and are filled with standing water. Especially after the rains, it is important to check potted plants and other containers that could be a breeding ground.

The yard should also be kept free of tall grass as mosquitoes love to hide there and wait for its next unsuspecting victim.

Home Maintenance

Keeping your home in a comfortable state free from insects can be an expensive undertaking.

Depending on the size of your home, it can cost approximately between five and ten thousand to get professionals to do a range of services such as spraying for insects.

What if that is just not in your budget?

Well here is a cheaper solution!

I found that by mixing a solution with either bleach or vinegar and water, I had made the perfect bug spray.  It killed ants on the spot and if you are able to find where the trail of ants lead then you can destroy their entire nest.

What about getting rid of other types of insects such as bedbugs?

Well you can try placing about twenty drops of lavender essential oil into a spray bottle that is filled with about 2 cups of denatured alcohol. Then spray down your mattress, sheets, blankets, pillows and towels.

Cleaning Solutions

There are other costs for home maintenance that include keeping the home clean. Often cleaning products, especially brand name ones, cost a lot and some persons are allergic to their strong scent.

A cheaper and natural solution is to use vinegar and water.  You can also add essential oils such as lemon or orange for added cleaning power. This works great on tiled floors, bathroom tiles and glass mirrors.

Baking soda and warm water can also be used for a variety of cleaning projects especially those that require heavy scrubbing such as in the kitchen and bathroom.

SAFETY TIP:Never combine ammonia-based cleaners with chlorine bleach or products containing bleach, such as powdered dishwasher detergent. The fumes they’ll create are extremely dangerous. Before doing any mixing, read the product labels first.

How do you maintain your home without breaking your budget?
