It was a fantastic week of delicious food that didn’t break my pocket. Restaurant Week 2015 can surely be called a success!
I had prepared myself to enjoy food from at least one category but I was pleasantly surprised when friends took me out and I was able to sample meals from the Epicurean and Nyam and Scram category.
Nyam and Scram
For the Nyam and Scram category I visited Cafe Blue which is located in the Sovereign Center. The first that struck me was the crowd. I came at a little before twelve on a weekday but it seemed as if everyone had the same idea and there was a long line at the cashier. Despite the long lines, the cashiers were efficient and soon it was my turn to place my order.
The restaurant week menu at Cafe Blue consisted of half jerk chicken or half cheese and steak sandwich or panini served with a slice of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Bread Pudding for $550.00. Well considering that a full serving of panini with the same ingredients and without the bread pudding normally costs $1500.00, the cost of the lunch was affordable.
My only feeling of dissatisfaction was that I would have loved more of the panini as it was delicious and after eating the delectable bread pudding I felt that it was money well spent.
Epicurean Delight!
My last trip was to Rojo Restaurant at The Spanish Court Hotel. I had heard good things about the food and service here so I was eager to experience it for myself. The restaurant quickly filled with persons in search for a well cooked meal served with class and elegance. The category attracted a price tag of $4, 300.00 plus G.C.T.
The choice of appetizers included crab cakes, salad and seafood medley. I tried the seafood medley along with seafood chowder which were both mouth watering delights. The entree of grilled filet mignon was marinated in fresh garlic & herbs, grilled and served with a mushroom red wine reduction and pan roasted potatoes.
After feeling stuffed, I wondered how I was going to fit in desert my mango cheesecake arrived! All I can say was the meal was worth its weight in gold. The meal would have cost several thousand dollars more without the restaurant week discount. The service was also amazing as the servers kept checking to see if I needed anything else and made recommendations on selected dishes, all with a smile.
At the end of the meal, I was handed a coupon to fill out as customers who purchased the meal were entitled to win a refrigerator from their sponsors. There was also a promotion which involved posting a picture of your meal on Instagram in order to win free gas from Texaco.
So where did you go for restaurant week? Share your experiences with me!
