Although it might seem contradictory, there are several ways to ensure that you save while you spend. Consumers are pressured to find the best value for their money and so it is important that they save while they shop. Saving money requires a bit of planning and preparation. Here are a few tips to save while you shop!
Find free stuff
Stores often offer samples of new products to tempt consumers. Target these stores and ensure that you notice the days that they often do samples. I have noticed that the end of the month is a good time to check especially the supermarkets which usually introduce new products at that time.
Check closing down sales
If a store is closing its branch and relocating, then it is likely to have some heavily discounted items. This is because the store wants to get rid off its excess inventory. The best part of these kinds of sales is that the longer you wait, the more the prices will fall. Of course, the only drawback to this plan is that at the end of the sale, the best items might have already been sold.
Negotiate When Possible
Some prices are set in stone, and it’s a waste of time trying to negotiate with someone who won’t budge. However, I have found its always a good idea to ask to speak to the manager. Store clerks are often not authorized to discount the item, so asking for the manager will ensure that the person in authority is able to make the decision.
Time Your Purchase
If you wait to purchase something until you really need it, you’re likely to pay the sticker price, but with a little advanced planning, you can save big bucks. Why not write a wish list of items you need?
By keeping a never-ending wish list, a person is less likely to buy items that have not been contemplated for at least a month, which provides sufficient time to decide whether the item is a necessity or just a want.
It’s also usually a bad idea to buy an item at the first place you see it because it’s very likely it is cheaper somewhere else. For expensive purchases where you have a lot to gain by comparing prices, and for situations, like online shopping, where it’s extremely easy to compare prices, the savings you’ll achieve are worth the extra time and effort.
