How much stuff do you have? Well I know persons who have accumulated so many things that it is difficult to tell what are valuable and what is ‘junk’!
There are a number of reasons to organize your things whether at home or in your office. A well organized home and office provides an environment that is more conducive to rest and work respectively.
How often have you heard someone say they could not find an important document at the office? Well if the office was organized that problem would have been easily avoided. One of the main advantages to get rid of clutter in your life is that it can save you money!
Less Things More Money!
Clutter can cost you big bucks! What if you misplace a cheque?
Sure it is easily cancelled but that costs money as well. What if that document you misplaced costs you a promotion or a client?
Employers take a dim view of employees who can not be trusted to find vital information. The portrayal of being a disorganized person can make clients reconsider hiring your company and that’s not good for business.
What about when you go shopping?
The good news is that you just bought a great pair of black pants off the clearance rack. The bad news is they’re nonreturnable, and it turns out there are two other look-alike pairs jumbled in the back of your closet.
You have just bought clothes that you don’t need.
So how can we get organized?
Try these suggestions!
Set aside the last few minutes of your day to clean off your desk. To make this a smaller job, setting up different-colored folders for each of your projects and filing as you go during the day.
Store papers in vertical files not piles on your desk and you’ll save valuable surface space. Not only will you make a better impression, but you’ll be more productive in the morning.
What about that terrible closet? Well why not give away the clothes that you haven’t worn in over a year. Chances are you aren’t going to wear them if you haven’t by now.
If you have room, try stacking your sweaters and t-shirts on open shelves where you can scan them instantly instead of putting them in drawers. In order to keep it neat, be selective about what you buy.
Only go shopping with a list of what you need, not for recreation and when you get home, apply the ‘one in one out’ rule ruthlessly.
