Are you ready for a storm?

Author : teriann

Do you enjoy when it rains?

Well some amount of rain is a good way to cool down the place but a lot of rain accompanied by heavy winds can cause a lot of damage.

Be Prepared

I notice that there are two types of reactions to the announcement of an impending storm.  The first reaction is that some persons to run out and buy everything that is needed which results in long lines at the supermarkets.

The second response is that people often claim that the storm is a hoax and they make no preparations and simply go on their daily routine.

Which is the best response?

Well it’s always better to be safe than sorry. If the storm lacks the intensity that was expected then at least you have non-perishable food items that can still be consumed. However if the storm comes and you are ill prepared then that can lead to other problems.

Make a Plan

Everyone needs to be prepared for the unexpected. Your friends and family may not be together when disaster strikes. How will you find each other? Will you know if your children or parents are safe?

You may have to evacuate or be confined to your home.  Your plan should  have all of this information.

Put together a basic disaster supplies kit

A basic emergency supply kit could include the following recommended items: water for drinking and sanitation, food, at least a three-day supply, battery-powered radio and extra batteries, first aid kit.

These items should be bought whenever there is an announcement of a storm. Even if the storm does not hit full force many of these items can be reused for the next time.

Don’t forget to check your property for trees hanging too near utility wires or limbs too near to the roof.

What’s your take? Are you prepared for a storm?  Let me hear from you!

I always try to be prepared. Each year, at the beginning of the hurricane season I ensure that I have the roof checked, stock up on non-perishable food items, water, batteries, candles, flashlights, etc. The food items are stored in a separate cupbpard and are never used until needed or after the hurricane seaason has passed. So whenever there is announcement of an impending storm or hurricane all I need to do is fill my gas tank and ensure that my family is home
