Can we learn a lesson from Haiti?

Author : teriann

On January 12, 2010, the Haitian people experienced a cataclysmic event that changed their lives forever.  The earthquake not only destroyed lives it also tore the fabric of their society that still remains in pieces.

So now that a year has passed, has the quality of life improved in Haiti?  By all accounts, it seems there is still a lot of rebuilding left, as people are still living in less than ideal accommodations.

What have we learned from Haiti’s epic disaster?  Well do we, in Jamaica, have properly constructed buildings that can withstand the brunt of an earthquake?

Although we have building codes, do all our buildings contractors follow them? Are we doing enough to remove or reinforce those buildings that need attention?

The answers to those questions could mean the difference between life and death.

Learn What? We R like Haiti in everyway, the nasty streets with garbage, unemployment while
the leaders live large, politicalizig every aspect of life in our society, elites living high on the hog, rampant practises of hoodoo/voodoo/obeah causing alarming numbers of our kids/youths missing (maybe sacrificial lambs) illiteracy & ignorancy, missing fathers,
and females with multiple baby daddys, only ambition is to sneak into another person country by any means necessary than to help build their own, Murders , gangs & mayhem rules
as no one follows the laws, politicians , police nor citizens.
WHATS LEFT TO LEARN? Maybe our ppl can cease & desist building towers of Babels without the
proper steel, tools and no bandooloo permits obtain by unsavory means, other than than WE R HAITI we just have’nt gotten an earthquake yet
or have had to devour mud-pies, remember every dog has its day
