I had mixed feelings when I read that the merger of Air Jamaica to Caribbean Airlines would soon be completed.
Air Jamaica had been a huge financial loss but it was carried with such pride. It was a shame it had to go.
Recently, it has been reported that Caribbean Airlines would be granted a two week extension for the completion of the merger between the two airlines.
I wonder if the extension means they are having a turbulent passage or if they are preparing for a smooth landing?
I hope that whatever happens we will always keep our hearts open for the little piece of the Caribbean that flies.
What’s your view on the extension of finalizing the merger?
Do you foresee turbulence or clear skies? Let me hear from you!

In the latter years of AJ the financial burden that it’s operation engendered could be likened to an albatross hanging around the neck of a economically battered Jamaican economy. I was always proud of AJ, I have been flying with this National Airline from 1970. The sense of pride was always complimented with the resounding clapping of hands on each landing. And those beautiful stewards, who seemed to have had a piece of the island ready to share. It is quite unfortunate that we will have lost a national treasure. From what I have come to understand is that as part of the IMF stipulation Jamaica had to get rid of the financial hemorrhaging that was evident in the operation of AJ. It is very unfortunate that its continued operation was not part of the negotiations. I am a firm believer that where there is a will there is a way, or is this just a fleeting illusion in the current world economic reality. Now I fly Spirit, AA, or any
albatross that is heading home.
