The Leader of the Opposition in Jamaica, Mrs Portia Simpson Miller topped the story rankings for the Jamaica Gleaner for the week April 13 – 19 2009, with more than 18,000 page views. Why? Her style… fashionistas… pure style…
Lady P, caused many tongues to wag, and hearts to rush when she attended Parliament in a denim suit made most naturally by VERSACE.
What do you think… Should Lady P have worn this suit to Parliament? Did she flout the rules? Yes, no, maybe? Should denim be allowed in the House only if its VERSACE?
Finally, do you own a denim suit if so send me a photograph of you in it and let me know why you think it could or could not be worn to work. Just email them to me at feedback@jamaica-gleaner.com - Come on now it wont take you 3 minutes to select it and then send it to me via email…just copy paste the address .
Until next time.

MAY BE IF WE HAVE MORE DENIM WEAR IN PARLIAMENT AND MORE PEOPLE WITH BRAIN AND VISION ” JAMAICA WOULD BE BETTER OFF BY NOW. “INSTEAD OF THESE THOUSAND DOLLARS SUITS,… AND BRAIN DEAD POLITICIANS LITTERED THE HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A LESSEN TO ALL POLITICIANS AND JAMAICAN ALIKE . ” REMEMBER THE BIBLE SAID RENDER UR HEART AND NOT UR GARMENT. “SO IF ONE WANT TO GET THINGS DONE . DON’T LOOK AT UR CLOTHES. LOOK AT WHAT IS TO BE DONE AND DO THEM.
nice suit but she lost out for wearing it to parliament. It would have made a better fashion statement if she wore it to a party or just going out shopping. No Poortia, things seem to be not going your way of late.
Wow, versace in parliament? I recall that at my former high school it was the act of a set of radicals who decided to wear different coloured shirts to school a friday that got the prinicipal to introduce white tops for sixth formers.
Furthermore, let’s put up hands for those in support of a dress down day, a day from the high end formal wear to work and just let versace, D&G and all these brands reign.
For me getting into tie, long sleeved shirt, tailored pants and a shine shoes is one of the most uncomfortable things, give me a pair of jeans, plad shirt & boots and I’m good to go.
However, the cooperate culture that our respective industry celebrate dictates our dress codes and we just need to comply with whom. As for Mrs. Miller I think she just got -up and didn’t feel normal or she just decided to let heads turn after our former Prime Minister (whom I like) is still a woman.
Getting Ready,
Clif.
Jeans should not be worn in Parliament.Sister P is pushing the envelope re the Parliamentary dress code.Undoubtedly, this is an outfit fitting for a social occasion or a fete not Parliament.
Who cares?
Is there a written dress code for the Jamaican parliament? never heard of it…but then a classy denim suite can be even more formal than a flabby polyester outfit. Sis P. is always classy in just about anything she wears.
but look on her nuh. a gwaaan like she understand what she is reading.
So the Opposition Leader’s dress code is of more importance than the boorish behavior of certain MPs particularly a couple on the Government benches?
Unfreaking believable…….
unuh too badmind go find unuh own husband to buy unuh nice suits Portia keep doing it girl no dominoes polyester suit round here
The Versace denim suit looks nice but how much did that ting cost? Maybe our politicians are overpaid!
Maybe senility is setting in?
Has Sista P lost her way?
This kind of dinky outfit isn’t for any dignified female, and most definitely not a dignified representation of Jamaican people in their Parliament.
Someone should have sent Sista P home to get dressed!
I see nothing wrong with what she wore, more of them should follow her trend. Flexibility breathes creativity! they probably should consider a more flexible work environment in Parliament.
EVEN THOUGH A JEANS SUIT SHOULD BE THE LEAST OF JAMAICA’S PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, I STILL THINK EVEN IF THERE WAS NO DRESS CODE, THE JEAN IS SORT OF INAPPROPRIATE FOR PARLIAMENT. FOR PARLIAMENT, COME ON MISS SIMPSON IT’S OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT BUSINESS, NOT A POOL PARTY.
Leave the lady alone. We have more pressing issues in our country to think about. I don’t care what they wear as long as I see some action in the interest of our country. We major in the minor too much.Look at crime, violence, cost of living etc. I guess those who are so taken up with her dressing and the cost don’t pay bills they still depend on parents to support them so they have nothing to worry about but people’s clothes
Ommugabe your women probably wear drapes or sheets so shut the hell up…
Oh please! although I would not wear that outfit to parliament , the opposition leader did nothing wrong. There is no dress code in parliament. This lady cannot do anything to please some person. They just like to tear her down and she never pleases them. as far as i’m concern she looked great
I think that this woman is a joke and her antics in parliament confirmed my suspicions. This focus on what “this woman” looks like instead of what she’s saying is deeply sad and it’s no coincidence she is a woman. It seems to me that she’s more concerned about what she wears and people seeing it, than her job and her impact on the Jamaican Parliament as the so-call opposition leader.
Disgraceful!! This woman appeared as a recalcitrant school-girl craving attention through performance, highlighting her ignorance of the gravity of her position as the so-call opposition leader. Her attire is a perfect reflection of the depths that Jamaican parliament has sunk to. If that woman is an example of the new breed of woman politicians in Jamaica, then Jamaica will be the lesser.
I don’t like the woman dress sense or a lot of what she says and I don’t agree with most of her politics, but she has a right to express both. Politics is not about dress sense; it’s about doing the best you can for those who put you in office. So, if this woman gets on with the job, does it well and remains accountable to her electorate, who are we to tell her what to wear. Surely if this woman wants to dress like her “people” she would have been better wearing a shell suit tucked into a white socks and trainers?
I’m sorry woman but parliament is far too serious for childish antics and inappropriate dress. What an absolute farce! If this woman wants to be treated as a serious and respectable politician, then perhaps she should start acting like one. I think we should ignore this woman and with a bit of luck she will go away – just before the voters do it for her – I hope.

I am sorry .Jeans is for dress down .Lady P should know better . The behavior is like seeking attention
THANK YOU ELAINE. SOME PEOPLE SEEMS TO BE TAKING THIS THING PERSONAL, OR MAKING IT OUT TO BE A PARTISAN ISSUE. IT’S A MATTER OF PROFESSIONAL PRINCIPLE.
DOXIE .Lady P knows in her heart that she could do much better .And she should .Thanks Bobby.
Ommugabe is a eeeediat, I don’t think he has one positive bone in his body.
Only looooooooosers would make a big deal out of what someone is wearing. Only a loser would stand aside and criticize what others wear, they have no life. So many of us buy the most expensive clothes and then dead fe hungry later.
I don’t think its appropriate. She is a politician and unfortunately in this society she won’t be taken seriously if she doesn’t dress the part. That doesn’t mean that she has to be bland but spice up the business casual a little bit. The outfit was best to be worn at a party.
First with that hair cut…Simpson should go natural with an afro then she can walk into parliament and I or anyone else, would not be leaving blogs, because she would look fab.
Well said Mr Cottrell Hyatt. She is a let down in every aspect. She is to exit the scene of politics and give it to someone who knows what good governance is all about. She has been given her time to prove so and fails miserably each time. Jeans being worn to parliament is yet another of her foolish acts. She is just seeking attention and when one does so it shows that they are suffering from a low self worth. After all the beating she got recently at the polls no doubt all self worth has gone.
Leave Ommugabe alone. Well said and continue to express you opinions. She should be sent home to get dress as clearly she thought it was a party time.
Trust me, Dash you don’t want to see that woman go natural with an afro, she has dun it in the past and it didn’t fit her at that time so why do think it will work this time. What gone bad a morning can’t go good a evening.

“There is a time and place for everything”.
Parliament is not Sista P yaad.
Jamaica Parliament is the people’s House!
‘As order and structure are fundamental to Mother Nature, so too is order and structure fundamental to successful individual and national life’.
‘When an individual lives by herself, she can dress anyway she damn well please’. She may even go undressed.
However, when we live in a society there have to be ‘norms’ and ‘structures’ to our behavior, so that order and predictability can ensure progress.
As a leader of people, the behavior and even dress of a leader matters; because there are many citizens, especially the younger minds, who are inclined to emulate their leader.
There should be good examples to be emulated.
The state of being dressed or undressed does matter in a society.
Dress code has value.
Dress does not have to be expensive; but the material and ‘cut’ of a leader’s attire should send the ‘right message’.
I love the passion of Portia.
However, Sista P state of ‘undress’ in the people’s House is undignified and out of order.
Parliament is not Sista P yaad.
Jamaica Parliament is the people’s House!
In the people’s House, Jamaicans are to expect shining examples of ORDER & DIGNITY ALWAYS, even in the dress of the leader!
SORRY TO SAY “BUT MOST OF YOU GUYS HERE WHO COMMENTED ON THIS ATTIRE THAT PORTIA WORE TO PARLIAMENT . ARE FOOLS” AND HYPOCRITE. BECAUSE YOU ARE SAYING ALL SORT OF CONDEMNING THINGS ABOUT HER DRESS. BUT I GUARANTEE YOU ALL THAT IF SHE HAS JUST WALKED OUT OF PARLIAMENT WITH A SACK FULL OF MONEY AND START TO DISTRIBUTE IT TO YOU ALL IN THAT SAME SUIT . YOU ALL WOULD BE TEARING OFF HER SUIT TO GET YOUR SHARE OF THAT MONEY.
YOU EVER WONDER WHY JAMAICA IS IN THIS TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT NOW? ” ITS PRECISELY BECAUSE OF NUMSKULLS LIKE MOST OF YOU… BECAUSE YOU RATHER HAVE FANCY THIS, THEN LATER FIND YOURSELVES IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE. BECAUSE YOU TAKE MORE TIME THINKING OF WHAT PEOPLE WILL THINK OF YOU,… THAN MAKING SOUND DECISIONS FOR YOUR FUTURE.
” AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO THE JAMAICAN TAX PAYERS MONEY FOR YEARS. TAX MONEY COLLECTED AND MONEY THAT HAS BEEN BORROWED IN TAX PAYERS NAMES. TO BUY PEJEROS, BMW, JAGUARS, RANGE ROVERS, SUBURBANS, AND AUDIE’S. AND OTHER LUXURY ITEMS FOR POLITICIANS WHETHER THEY DO A GOOD JOB OR NOT. AND AS I SAID AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS COMMENT PAGE.MAY BE IF WE HAD HAVE POLITICIANS WHO PERFORMED THEIR DUTIES AND NOT LOOK AT WHAT YOU WEAR . JAMAICA WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE TODAY.
TO SOME OF YOU WHO THINK SO NARROW. THAT A SUIT IS WHAT MAKE YOU A SERIOUS BUSINESS PERSON OR POLITICIANS. WELL I HAVE BAD NEWS FOR YOU. ” BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THE MOST SOPHISTICATED CRIMINALS DO TODAY’S THEY DRESS UP IN SUITS . BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THE MAJORITY FOOLS WILL ACCEPT THEM AND BELIEVE IN THEM AND TRUST THEM. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT ONE OF THE WORLD RICHEST MAN RICHARD BRONSON OF VIRGIN ATLANTIC AND THE VIRGIN GROUPS..”" WHAT DOES HE WEAR? DENIM JEANS SUITS OF COURSE… SMART PEOPLE DON’T SPEND FOOLISHLY ON CLOTHS.
THEY SPEND MONEY ON WHATS MATTER THE PROMOTION OF THEIR BUSINESS.
NOT THEIR LOOKS.THEY WILL DRESS IN THEIR BEST . BUT IF THEY HAVE A GREAT PRODUCT THAT WORKS, …DON’T TELL ME THAT A SUIT WILL PREVENT THEM FROM BEEN BELIEVED . OUR PROBLEM IN JAMAICA IS THAT WE HAVE A SELF IMAGE PROBLEM. WHERE IF U NOT DRESSED SLICK PEOPLE WONT WANT TO ASSOCIATED WITH YOU. WELL I SAY TO HELL WITH THAT. I FOR ONE HATE SUITS. I ONLY WEAR THEM ON REALLY SPECIAL OCCASIONS. LIKE FUNERAL, AND WEDDING. BECAUSE I KNOW I WONT BE GOING TO THEM TOO OFTEN IN A YEAR.
THERE IS A LITTLE STORY MY MOTHER TOLD ME ONCE,… AND SHE SAID” IF YOU COMING FROM WORK AND MEET A WOMAN AND YOU ARE IN YOUR DIRTY WORK CLOTH . AND THE WOMAN REFUSE TO TALK TO YOU. BUT WHEN YOU GO HOME AND GET CLEAN UP AND PUT ON NEW CLOTHE. THEN IF THAT’S THE TIME SHE WILL BE WILLING TO TALK TO YOU . ” IT MEAN THAT SHE DID NOT WANT YOU BUT SOMETHING ELSE. BECAUSE ITS YOU SAME ONE . WITH JUST A CHANGE OF CLOTH AND BEEN CLEANER…. SO IT MEAN AS LONG AS PORTIA IS DOING HER JOB SHE CAN GO TO PARLIAMENT NAKED AS FAR AS I SEE IT . NOT WHAT SHE LOOK LIKE OR WHAT SHE WORE THAT’S COUNT . ITS THE JOB THAT SHE DO THAT’S COUNT THE RESULT OF THAT JOB.
Without rules we would have social anarchy. Whether or not Parliament has stipulated dress codes rule, Portia should know better not to wear a jeans suit to Parliament. It is irrelevant if the JA economy is failing so that should justify a jeans suit. Under George Bush’s reign we saw what is dubbed as the “global recession”,aka, a meltdown in the economy but that did not persuade him to wear a jeans suit to any of the official White House sittings before his reign came to its end. One would never see a bank manager or teller wearing jeans to work even if the bank is about to be closed down. You would never see a Pastor on the pulpit in a jeans shorts even if he has just committed adultery or fornication. My point is, Portia has no excuse to wear a jeans suit as it is probably even more expensive than one of her usually tailored suit.
Well said Ommugabe and Realtalk ! It is all about professionalism, professionalsm, and more professionalism!!Nuff respect!!
Bob to further illustrate your point, Former President G. W. Bush had a rule that no one should be in the Oval Office out of a suit. Obama had the nerve to take off his jacket in the Office and had his picture taken. The conservatives ( Jamaica’s version of the JLP) were livid, much like the idiocy we see on here.
Now which would you have Bush in a suit or Obama in a shirt?
REALTALK:
YOU CANNOT EQUATE ‘ GEORGE BUSH WITH PORTIA AND JAMAICA. GEORGE BUSH HELP TO CREATE THE WORLD ECONOMIC CRISIS SO WHAT U EXPECT HIM TO DO . HE DID NOT DO THIS SO THE POOR COUNTRIES TO MAKE MONEY . HE DID THIS TO SCREW CHINA ANS RUSSIA. IN THE PROCESS HE SCREW THE WORLD. AND YOU SHOW ME WHICH OF THE MONEY THEY GIVE OUT WENT TO POOR COUNTRY OR INDIVIDUALS?.
AS I SAID I WOULD RATHER SEE MY POLITICAL REPRESENTATIVE USE HIS OR HER BRAIN IN THE RIGHT WAY FOR THE COUNTRY’S GOOD . INSTEAD OF WATCHING WHAT THE OTHER FELLOW POLITICIANS ARE WEARING.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS CLOTH WORSHIPING MEANS? IT MEAN THAT THE MAN IN HIS DUTTY TROUSERS IS NOT SEEN BY POLITICIAN IN THEIR THOUSAND DOLLAR SUIT .WHY ARE THEY ARE WORST THAN DOGS? ” AND ONLY TIME THOSE DOGS SHOULD BE SEEN IS WHEN THE THOUSAND DOLLARS SUIT MAN IS TRYING TO KEEP HIS JOB SO HE CAN HAVE THOSE FREE THOUSAND DOLLARS SUIT OFF THE BACKS OF THE TEAR UP BATTY TROUSERS MAN. MOST OF YOU GUYS ARE LOCKING IN VISION.
JUST THINK OF WHAT THE PM OR OTHERS WOULD DO TO AN ORDINARY CITIZEN WHO HAVE ONE TEAR UP TROUSERS AND DECIDE TO VISIT PARLIAMENT?. ” THIS IS WHY I SAID THIS SILLINESS IS SO CHILDISH, AND IRRELEVANT.
BOB:
I COULDN’T CARE LESS” WHAT THEY WEAR. AS LONG AS THEY ARE DOING THE PEOPLE’S WORK. THE BIBLE WAS THE FIRST TO POINT OUT THAT RENDER YOUR HEART NOT YOUR GARMENT. WE NEED POLITICIANS THAT CAN GOVERN NOT WATCH WHAT ONE WEAR’S… IF THEY HAD SPENT HALF THE TIME THINKING HOW THEY HAVE TO CRAFT A BUDGET AND GOVERN IN A RESPECTABLE WAY . WE WOULDN’T BE HAVING THIS ARGUMENT.
I completely agree that it is not the suit that makes the person. Also I can understand her reasoning behind wearing the suit, if she is trying to relate to the common Jamaican masses. However if the suit is Versache(dear God I cant even spell it), which cost about minimum 3 times what the average Jamaican earning minimum wage a week, then I see the her act as pointless. I think if you going to make a statement, make it properly. Portia you can’t relate to both sides of Jamaica through the same medium, so pick a side and stick to it.
Without a doubt, Portia is the best dressed woman in Jamaica. Her body is always nicely covered up. she is tall and elegant and wears her clothes well. He attire shows that she is not serious about what she is doing. Just profiling as a fashion model; granted it was a lovely outfit but Portia is always short on protocol.
By the way, Portia could look a lot better if she pulls all her hair backwards with a nice bun at the back. It would show more maturity and prettier. That transfix Cleopatra signature style is not for her.
What you wear doesn’t dictate the type of service you give. I would prefer someone wearing something outrageous, (nothing too revealing or so) managing the government properly, than a well dressed idiot, ruining it.
Ms. Elvena Rettie, you have me LOL with regard to the Cleopatra signature style!! Nuff respect!!
Mr Bob, please note that I was not getting into the real deal meaning of politics. I cudn’t care less who George Bush wanted to p**s off why we have a so called credit crunch going on at the moment. I am not interested in your political lessons. I was merely making comparisons as to why I do not think Portia shud wear a Versace “jeans” suit to Parliament and I therefore do not require any political thesis from your treasure hunting on wikepedia. You sound so ignorant and shallow in your reasoning to think that one’s appearance is so irrelevant so long as their brain is functioning. You are from the side of the fence who would not care if Portia was the PM of Jamaica and wears a jeans suit to meet Gordon Brown and represent the country. I am a proud Jamaican and di jeans suit jus neva mek it inna Parliament! A word of wisdom ” Clothes and manners do not make the man; but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance!
Well said Bob.
In Jamaica, (sadly) it’s not how you think, perform or so, it’s all about how you look. You ever see some real posh vehicles driving out of some yards………. with a boardhouse. It’s all about image. Smart people don’t wear their money, they let it work for them, even when they are not!
For all those who don’t yet recognize that clothing that ‘fits the occasion’ matters, maybe Sista P can go to her Parliament in her undies?
In the People’s House, the people’s Parliament, Sista P is not at liberty to waltzing in dressing any which way she pleases. Parliament is not her yaad.
If one lives alone or is in one’s yaad, then one can dress as one damn well please.
However, when we live in a society, there are going to be societal dress codes; which help to promote order, structure, predictability and progress, all ingredients necessary for a successful individual life and societal life.
As for the childish comparison between Obama and Bush in the US White House, there are enough Jamaicans who understand the value of human ‘dressing for a particular occasion’.
We do not need examples on dress codes from farin.
We are that knowledgeable!
To use the argument of Jamaica’s economy and budgetary problems, in justifying and rationalizing Ms. Simpson-Miller’s wearing of a jeans suit to Parliament as supposedly appropriate is categorically fallacious, and of course, illogical.Interestingly, and undoubtedly, such an argument or rationalization, is nothing more than a RED HERRING, with the objective of taking away attention from the matter or issue being discussed, or at hand, and that is, Ms. Simpson Miller’s attire and deportment of a jeans outfit in Parliament, that is what is being discussed and not the economy, budget, etc. Nuff respect !!
Well said Ommugabe! I guess it wud really be nice to see Sis P in her undies in Parliament fi real! If nothing is wrong with Portia wearing jeans then nothing is wrong if you go to the supermarket and instead of joining the line to pay for your items you just push your trolley up to the front of the line, having no regards for those waiting in the line. Based on some of the reasonings I have read on the blogs, such behaviour wud be fine so long as I am paying for my goods then why bother to adopt the principle of joining the line. After all, I am not stealing, I am still paying for them! Lets get real people!
As far as I am concerned, the hapless state of Jamaica’s affairs started in Gordon House and it is not no sacred place in my books. It is not deserving of this high pedestal on which some of us seem to think it belongs.
Gordon House is one inch away from being a certified sewage system.
OMMUGABE:
HAVE YOU EVER STOP TO THINK,WHY OUR SOCIETY IS NOT GETTING ANY WHERE?… ITS BECAUSE OF THINKING LIKE YOURS AND OTHERS LIKE YOU THAT’S WHY OUR SECURITY FORCES ARE BEHAVING IN SUCH RECKLESS AND CRIMINAL MANNER TOWARD THE LESS AFFLUENT CITIZENS OF THIS SUPPOSE TO BE GREAT COUNTRY. WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IF I GET YOU RITE.” IS IF A JAMAICAN HAVE ONE TROUSERS AND IT HAVE SOME HOLES IN IT AND HE HAVE TO VISIT AN ESTABLISHMENT, HE SHOULD BE TURNED AWAY BECAUSE HE IS SOME HOW A SUSPECT OF SOME BAD OR EVIL CHARACTER, THAT MIGHT DO SOME THING CRIMINAL TO THAT ESTABLISHMENT?…
“FOR THESE CORRUPT REASONS AND THINKING “THAT’S WHY JAMAICA WILL NEVER GET ANY WHERE UNTIL WE AS A PEOPLE STARTING TO ACCEPTING ONE ANOTHER AS PEOPLE FIRST AND WHAT THEY WEAR OR CAN WEAR AND HAVE LAST. SOME BODY IN HIGH AUTHORITY SAID TO ME THE OTHER DAY THAT I KNOW THAT JAMAICA WILL NEVER BE BETTER . BECAUSE WHETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT JAMAICA HAS A CLASS WARFARE GOING ON. SO THAT’S WHY THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE.
AND YOUR ARGUMENT AND OTHERS LIKE YOURS HELP TO ENFORCE THAT STATEMENT. ” BUT I HAVE A WARNING FOR YOU ALL WHO THINK THIS WAY. JUST LOOK THE UNITED STATES NEVER THINK THEIR ECONOMY WOULD BE RUNNING CLOSE TO A SECOND DEPRESSION. BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY WERE SO MIGHTY. AND THE SAME GOES FOR YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU. “AS I SAID BEFORE AND WILL SAID IT AGAIN. IF WE DID HAVE SOME POORLY DRESS AND WELL THINKING POLITICIANS . JAMAICA WOULD BE SUCH A PARADISE THAT IT ONCE WAS.
BUT IT SEEM WE IN JAMAICA ONLY THINK WE CAN BE ACCEPTED IF WE TRY TO KEEP UP WITH THE JONES”
AND THIS IS WHY DR DAVIES AND OTHER BEFORE AND AFTER HIM ARE GOING DOWN THE SAME ROAD. BORROW TO LIVE AND NOT PRODUCE TO LIVE. THUS FORGETTING THAT ONE DAY THEY HAVE TO PAY THE PIPER.
IT WAS THE VERY SAME THING WHEN I SICK WOMEN WANT TO SEE JESUS FOR HEALING. BUT HER DRESS WAS NOT , TO HER GOOD ENOUGH TO GO SEE THIS KING. ” BUT JESUS REMINDED HER,”SAYING . RENDER YOUR HEART NOT YOUR GARMENTS. IF OUR POLITICIANS COULD ONLY RENDER PROPER,CLEAR AND CONCISE LEADERSHIP WE AS A NATION WOULDN’T BE HAVING SUCH SILLY DEBATE.
Bob
You are losing it.
In comparing Sista P state of undress in the People’s House (Parliament) with a man with ‘one trousers’, you are totally missing the salient point that I’m making.
No member of ANY Parliament has one outfit!
And if the member is going to have one outfit,
then it should ‘fit’ the Parliamentary environment!
Sista P DOES NOT have ‘one truousers’ or outfit; so your comparison is unworkable.
If Sista P had one trousers/outfit or could afford only one trousers/outfit to wear to the People’s House, then Sista P should ASK her constituency for the proper outfit outfit for Parliament.
Parliament is the People’s House!
In the People’s House, Sista P should dress as the hosts (people) demand.
When Sista P is in her house or in YOUR house, you and her can dress as you desire.
OK, Bob?
The points above are in no way directed at the ordinary po citizen, who many not be able to afford even one trousers, or don’t need to afford a Parliamentary outfit.
Sista P IS NOT like the average poor Jamaican wid one trousers!
It is delusional and a huge mistake to compare any of the political leaders as such!
Bob to further illustrate your point read today’s Gavel Report in the Gleaner titled “Respect begets respect, Mr PM”. http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20090511/lead/lead8.html
I have written about the boorish behaviour of Members of Parliament yet we have partisan hacks on here who care not for foul mouthed beasts but find time to berate Mrs. Miller for the clothes she wear.
Such is Jamaica Bob and I fear we will never be better. On one hand we have the Prime Minister Bruce “King Julian” Golding pretending to be decent while wasting very little opportunity to sow seeds of disunity. He is always first to be the one calling for consensus as long as the so-called consensus agrees with him 100%.
On the other hand we have an inept PNP leadership stuck in the past and failing to re-invent itself but somehow seeks relevance in a time when such relevance requires forward thinking and not the same ole same ole.
King Julian Golding gets away with these things because the so-called opinion editors have not highlighted his hypocrisy of speaking out of both sides of his mout
Nothing lasts forever and sure as night, follows day the people of Jamaica will see Golding for exactly who he is much like his former boss did.
Long live King Julian.
Bob:
I think its full time you come back to our side. Your compatriots are being silly as usual. Let me ask them this: If Portia wore the very same outfit that look the same, but is made of wool instead, would it be acceptable to you? Is it because the material is “jeans-like”?
I wonder if one of the persons from the other side, who suffers from the vestiges of colonial rule and plantation thinking, would provide an answer to the question. I doubt it, since they normally disappear when they discover that their fallacies were exposed!
THANK YOU STEVE:
MARK YOU SEE THERE IS SOMETHING I SEE THAT IS THE SAME BETWEEN THE PNP AND THE JLP. THEY ARE THE SAME. WHEN IN OPPOSITION, THEY SIT THERE AND RUB THE BACK OF THE ADMINISTRATION WHICH EVER IS IN POWER AT THE TIME. THEY BOTH LOOKING FOR THE SAME FAVORS. SO I CANT JOIN NONE OF THEM ” I MIGHT SOUND LIKE I AM ON ONE SIDE OVER THE OTHER BUT I AM NOT . I AM A STRAIGHT TALKIE AND I SAY IT AS I SEE IF. NONE OF THEM WOULD HAVE WANTED SOME ONE LIKE ME !
BECAUSE WITH SOME ONE LIKE ME IN THEIR PARTIES . I WOULD UPSET THE APPLE CART. AND THE JAMAICAN PEOPLE WOULD START TO GET WISE… SO NONE OF THEM CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE ME ON THEIR SIDE. THANKS FOR THE INVITATION THO. ONLY WHEN YOU AND STEVE ARE READY TO LET US 3 FORM A NEW PARTY THEN YOU WILL HAVE ME ON YOUR SIDE. BECAUSE IT SEEM LIKE THE 3 OF US UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEAN TO SERVE THE PUBLIC
OMMUGABE;
I KNOW YOU WOULD MISS THE POINT. LET ME MAKE IT MORE EASIER FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND LET U THINK . JUST LOOK AT THE DEBT THAT JAMAICA FIND ITS SELF IN ” ITS BECAUSE WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE WAS PEOPLE SHOWING UP IN FANCY SUITS AND FANCY SUVS. TO GO WARM BENCH/ CHAIRS. EVERY BODY WAS TOO BUSY WATCHING WHAT THE OTHER WAS WEARING OR DRIVING,… AND NO BODY WAS REALLY DOING THE PEOPLES WORK ” TO KEEP US FROM GETTING IN THE TROUBLE WE NOW FIND OURSELVES IN.
SO NOW THE THE ONE TROUSERS MAN HAVE TO BE STILL STRUGGLING TO GET THESE POLITICIANS/BENCH WARMERS SUIT COUNTERS AND DRESS FREAKS,… MORE SUIT WHILE THEY SCREW UP HIS FUTURE BY SPENDING TIME DISCUSSING SUIT / DRESS CODE INSTEAD OF DOING THE PEOPLE’S WORK TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY BETTER. THAT’S THE POINT I AM SIMPLY MAKING.
I USE THE ONE TROUSERS MAN TO ILLUSTRATE THE POINT THAT HE HAVE NO TIME TO WORRY ABOUT HIS ONE TROUSERS . HE HAVE TO USE HIS BRAIN TO THINK WHAT HE WILL HAVE TO DO TO REPLACE IT. AND AT THE SAME TIME HELPING TO BUY THOUSANDS DOLLARS SUITS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE BICKERING ABOUT WHAT ONE ANOTHER IS WEARING ” WHEN THEY SHOULD BE WORKING ON HIS BEHALF TO LET HIM HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO REPLACE HIS ONE TROUSER!
I HOPE YOU GET IT NOW.
