LFW 2009 – Conran Remains Unstoppable

A stalwart of fashion saved Day 3 of London Fashion Week for me.

I can’t believe I’m saying this fashionista’s, but my fave for Day 3 was the unstoppable Jasper Conran. His predominantly white colour palette with nude/flesh tones and a hint of silver and gold metallics were phenomenal. SO intricate was the detail matched only by the creativity of the pieces.

The collection was heavily influenced by lingerie so, we were treated to an array of  knickers, bra’s and sculptured corsets, under sheer tulle’s/chiffon’s with lace. I had so many faves from this collection.  A must for me was the ultra skinny jeans with ribbon laced up the back legs.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Nicole Farhi’s collection illustrated comfort and individuality. The harem trousers were wicked!  A must for my sister who found Nicole in the 90s… say no more.  Also the washed out colour combinations worked for me.

From talking to a number of fashionistas, this is really a collection you either love or hate. Definitely no middle ground.

Issa’s collection was exotic, light, colourful and breezy. Naomi Campbell, opened the show to the sounds of  Grace Jones, looking absolutely stunning at 39.

Spoke briefly with the designer Daniella Issa Helayel. She was thrilled with how the show had gone and sung the praises of Naomi. Really quite a humble and warm designer. I’m going to try and catch up with her again in the near future. All in all a fluid, stylish collection, gets the thumbs up!

Onwards and upwards to Day 4 fashionistas. Lets begin with Luella. Luella Bartley’s show was a 1960′s London inspired collection. We were treated to florals, polka dots and lots of colour. Balloon dresses and bell skirts were fun and fresh. As were the accessories.

I cannot leave without mentioning the make-up. The bold blocks of eyeshadow were fabulous!

As a fashionista back into her groove of knitting and crocheting I had to mention Pringle of Scotland. The collection ranged from chunky cables to delicate pointelles, the ladder stitch and lace like details were delicious.

The men’s pieces were casual, comfy and versatile. The women’s collection was feminine and chic, personified in a sense by the actress Tilda Swinton who was present in a Pringle trouser suit combination. Gorgeous!

The best collection of the day for me was Paul Smith. Yes, this London Fashion Week regular blew me away. His  androgynous collection was bold and bright.  Mixed African inspired patterns in an abstract way.

The models wore bowlers, pocket handkerchiefs, cuff links and ties, illustrating that the collection was influenced by the Congolese style of gentlemanly dress. As illustrated in the picture below. This collection was edgy, and full of sexy confidence with amazing intricacies. After seeing this collection I cannot help but feel extremely enthusiastic about the fashion industry. One to remember for London Fashion Week S/S 2010.  Amazing!
