I remember once buying a brand name dress at a popular store in Miami only to discover the same dress on the racks in a store in Kingston. There was a significant difference in price of the dress, as the one I bought in Miami was much cheaper.
What lesson did I learn?
Well almost anything that is offered overseas is available here if you look hard enough. Jamaican consumers are always on the lookout for the products that they love at a price they can afford.
Although it is good that our stores are able to offer a wider range of products, I still have a problem with the high prices.
Often the sales racks are filled with clothes that are either of poor quality or unfashionable which forces consumers to make difficult choices.
So what do consumers have to look forward to this month?
Jamaican consumers are eagerly anticipating a new twist on the American tradition of offering lower prices on the Friday after the American holiday of Thanksgiving.
This day is commonly referred to as ‘Black Friday’.
This is a massive shopping day in America and often persons camp out overnight to get the best deals. During this time, stores open early and close later to accommodate the increased traffic.
Some Jamaican businesses have followed their American counterparts and have collaborated with several sponsors including The Gleaner to present their own version of ‘Black Friday’.
This will take place on November 28- 30, 2013 at the Village Plaza on Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
Selected stores will extend their opening hours and offer discounts to their customers.
This event certainly offers consumers a refreshing change from searching through discount bins and leaving disappointed.
So will you be at shopping at ‘Black Friday’ in Kingston?
Let me hear from you!
