What Labour Day Projects do Consumers want?

Author : teriann

Every year its the same drill, Jamaicans come out in their numbers as they work together to clean or improve their environment. This effort is done on Labour Day which is a public holiday celebrated on May 23, 2014.

Last year there were a number of projects and I am sure this year it will be more of the same kind of work. Improvements for schools, police stations and general road work are usually on the agenda for that day.

While those projects are certainly worth the effort, I have a few ideas about the projects that consumers would like to see the focus being placed this Labour Day.

Consumer Projects

The first suggestion is to find more safe areas for persons to park while shopping. Often there are places in Downtown I want to go but I am restricted because of the limited availability of parking spaces.

Why not identify those areas that can be converted to parking lots?

Another project I know that consumers would benefit from is improving the appearance and condition of our sidewalks. If you park and walk to shops the lack of sidewalks in some areas makes it seem as if you are literally walking in the road.

This is a menace when you are carrying heavy bags after a long day of shopping and are unable to fully see oncoming traffic.

Another good idea for a project, is for companies to thoroughly clean the restrooms used by their customers.

I realize they must have some kind of daily cleaning schedule but those places sustain high traffic so a thorough clean would be much appreciated. Perhaps even an upgrade of the facilities could be done.

Labour Day projects should not only be done to give communities a facelift, there are some badly dilapidated business places which could benefit from a well needed paint job.

What would you like to see as a project for Labour Day that would help consumers?

Let me hear from you!
