Good Sales Practices!

Author : teriann

Often we are more likely to notice the bad more than the good in most areas of life.  This is also applies to how we view business practices in Jamaica.

There are a lot of things that do not promote productivity or customer loyalty however there are still a few good practices that have not been given enough recognition.

Friendly and Cooperative staff

Although I have experienced many unprofessional workers, there are those that make my day.

The security personnel who issue and collect security tickets at the Wholesale club, Megamart in Kingston are examples of this type of worker as they never fail to smile and greet their customers with a friendly remark.

I also recently went in a local clothing store and when I remarked that I could not afford to buy an item of clothing that I liked, the friendly store clerk informed me that there would be a sale in the coming week so I could wait to make my purchase.

There have also been instances where store clerks will offer suggestions of another store where I could find an item at a better price or variety.

I especially like those sales persons who are honest.

I once asked a clerk at a popular store on Constant Spring Road if the clothing on sale was damaged and she honestly admitted it was and showed me the flaws.

Okay I know what you are thinking these sales clerks were bad at their job as I ended up not purchasing anything at that time. Although it might appear so at first, a closer inspection proves that there is a lot to be gained by being honest.

Their honesty will build the consumer’s trust in their brand and those customers will recommend the store or service to their friends and relatives which will ultimately result in higher sales.

Consumer Loyalty

Managers of companies who recognize their regular customers and reward them stand a better chance of encouraging them to stay with the company instead of employing persons with a surly and ungrateful attitude.

A number of supermarkets have even instituted a loyalty programme where customers can earn points which can eventually cause them to earn free items.

So even though we are surrounded by the bad, do you know of any other good practices?

Let me hear from you!
