Christmas Sales – Is November too early to start?

Author : teriann

There was a cool breeze that blew through my window last night that fooled me into thinking that maybe December had come early this year.

However, a quick look at the calendar confirmed that it was November and so December was still one month away.

I can see why persons might be confused however as even though it’s the first week in November, many companies have rolled out their usual end of year sales campaign. Ammar’s, a clothing store in Mall Plaza on Constant Spring Road had their sales with discounts up to 50% on selected items.

Other companies such as Courts and Home & Things had sales that lasted a few days and they encouraged customers to avoid the Christmas rush and shop early. The appeal of these sales is to emphasize that the savings would not last so if consumers missed the bargains they would never get the opportunity again.

Too early for Christmas?

Is it too early to do Christmas shopping?

Well that depends on your budget and activities during this time.  If it is your custom to give gifts to a variety of family and friends during this time, then careful planning is required in order to afford to buy gifts for everyone on your list.

If you are shopping and items that you want to give as gifts are being advertised at a reduced cost, then it makes sense to purchase them.

However, buying items without any need for them just because there is a slight reduction of cost will simply cause you to fall into debt.

A number of sales also have such limited time lines such as ,’three days only” and ‘this Saturday only,’  that consumers might feel pressured to shop in a limited window that they might not have been prepared for and so might lose out.

So enjoy the shopping but remember to budget for it so that you can still enjoy the holidays!

What’s your take? Let me hear from you!
