Public Sector Customer Service Awards!

Author : teriann

On this blog I have many times written about the poor customer service experienced by Jamaican consumers.  It has become so commonplace that getting good customer service feels strange.

It is a sad sate of affairs that the business operators often do not properly train their staff and are not around to see how poorly they interact with customers.

They would be appalled in most cases if they could see and hear how customer’s genuine concerns are handled in an often contemptuous manner.

Is there any Good Customer Service?

Recently I went to a wholesale and witnessed an irate customer shouting and being aggressive towards an employee.  Although she was being spoken to calmly by the employee, the customer continued to behave in a boisterous manner.

I was struck by the demeanor of the employee who remained soft spoken throughout the entire conversation.  What was the result?

The issue was resolved and nerves calmed as the now happy customer left the store clutching a bag of merchandise she had been allowed to exchange.

There are many other places that instill in their employees a sense of dignity and pride.  This allows them the ability to interact with customers in a respectful manner even when it is not shown to them.

It is as a result of wanting to recognize those public entities which have continued to show excellent customer support and service, that an awards function has been arranged to show appreciation for their efforts in the area of customer service.

Awards

According to the information from the Jamaica Information Service website, ‘winners of the seventh staging of the Public Sector Customer Service Competition (PSCSC) will be announced at an awards function scheduled to take place on Friday (October 9, 2015) at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in Kingston.’

This is certainly welcome news as too often the good are overlooked as we focus on the ones who perform poorly.

Several public sector entities have been have been shortlisted in the competition.

The entities that have been shortlisted are: National Health Fund (NHF), Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA), National Land Agency (NLA), National Housing Trust (NHT) and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).

Have you ever had to conduct business at anyone of these entities?  How did you find the experience?

Well I must admit that I am excited to discover who will walk away with the top awards.

Some of the categories include: Most Responsive Entity, the Most Innovative/Creative Entity, the Most Improved Entity and the Best Customer Service Entity.

There will also be prizes for the Best Customer Service Officer and the Most Socially Aware Entity.

I hope this initiative continues as we continue to celebrate excellence!
What’s your take?
Let me hear from you!
