I was pleasantly surprised to receive a flyer with the caption, ‘All Government workers earn cash back with your valucard.’ I was instantly intrigued, what is a valucard and how could I get one?
Well after doing a little more research, I discovered that this card joins other types of card with its promise of returning funds to the civil servants if it is swiped at selected merchants.
According to the flyer, all government workers are entitled to a free valucard. The flyer lists a number of companies that are participating merchants that will offer cashback to consumers.
How does it work?
Cards are to be issued to workers in each government department from the Human Resource Department of the company. Cards are given a secure pin which is selected by the user for security reasons. Participating merchants would accept the card and swipe it so as to record the purchase.
Consumers will be able to see the amount of the ‘cash back’ received from the purchase by reading the information on the back of the receipt.
Discounts can also be offered to consumers as selected manufactures and distributors will also participate in the Team Jamaica program and give ‘cash back’ when card holders purchase selected products.
Card holders will receive a special password so that they can go online and check their balance on the card. This allows them to give an accurate report of their transactions.
Discount Cards
Most discount cards, have waiting periods for consumers to be allowed to use the money they have accumulated. Consumers who use these type of cards receive cheques that can be redeemed at participating stores.
I like the idea of earning money as I spend. Often at the end of a shopping trip I can feel depressed but knowing I have earned some money certainly helps to cheer me up!
Of course initially the amount might be small but it can accumulate and certainly can come in handy on a rainy day.
So do you need a discount card? What’s your take?
