Fashion vs Cost – How to look good for less!

Author : teriann

‘What a beautiful outfit. It must have been very expensive.”  Have you ever heard those expressions? Well too often people equate outfits that look amazing with a hefty price tag. However that does not always have to be the case.

Looking good for less

If you like to shop for clothes, and you live in the Kingston area your options are to shop downtown or uptown.  The downtown area does not cover only the area of downtown but  in fact the prices start to drop in the stores in the Half Way Tree area.  There are various stores in the Half Way Tree area that seem to offer clothing for way less than their uptown counterparts.

Are these good deals though?

Well I found that even though you have to search, there are good deals to be found especially in the bargain bins.

Of course you have to carefully examine the articles of clothing as they might be stained or damaged. In most cases the bargain bins mostly  contains older stock. I also realized that the clothing on sale were usually the very small or very large sizes.

Outfits

The creation of outfits is always a concern especially on a small budget.  The best advice I can give is to mix it up. I like to shop both uptown and downtown.  The uptown stores have a great deal of brand names but they come with high prices. A way to get around it is to buy a top or shirt at the high end store but mix it with another piece that might be at the lower end.

Another way to look good on a budget is to pick items that enhance your best features. This means spending time studying what styles look good on you and not simply buying items that are on sale.  This also means not following fashion trends slavishly as what looks good on someone else might not fit your body type.

Bargain hunt

Whether you shop at uptown or downtown stores, it is imperative that you shop wisely. Check out sales and never be afraid to ask for additional discounts.

If you are a frequent shopper at the location why not ask for an additional discount? If the manager is informed of your repeated visits you just might get an extra discount!

So the next time someone compliments your fabulous outfit, graciously accept the compliment but of course you will know that you didn’t have to spend a ton to look great!

So what’s your take?  Let me hear from you!
