Closing the tax gap!

Author : teriann

Only people who can’t afford to don’t pay their taxes.

Perhaps that statement is not entirely true as many professionals who are able to pay are the very ones who owe taxes.

It is ironic that the average Jamaican who struggles to make ends meet with his meagre salary still has to pay his taxes, while those who live in luxury are able to avoid spending their money.

Many under report or do not accurately report their earnings all in an effort to dodge the tax man.

Well the government has promised it will go after wealthy tax dodgers with a vengeance so they had better pay up!

So do you think the new aggressive tax collection drive will be successful?  Let me hear from you!

  1. It is a curse in every country that the middle class gets taxed and axed always. The poor gets excepted(off course that is justified) and the richer have a work-around. The middle class on the other hand have no choice.

A robust social Security Numbering system like the one in USA can solve this issue upto a great extend. But most importantly what we need is a government who is determined to solve this issue.

    regards,
    a middle class guy
