Casey Stoner took full advantage of a first corner incident which claimed championship leader Jorge Lorenzo and intensified the 2012 championship race. The weekend did not show signs of champagne when the defending World Champion bit asphalt pie on Friday. But, despite being battered and bruised, Stoner kept his eye on the prize and showed his resolve.
The first corner, desperation move by Bautista, drop-kicked Lorenzo and the plumes of smoke from the Yamaha, confirmed that Jorge’s chances of a respectable finish were buried in smoke.
With Lorenzo out, Stoner knew he had received a golden spoon. His teammate, Dani Pedrosa had his own plans, but Stoner ignored his protestations and rode by him to take the lead.
Once he had the lead, Stoner put the hammer down and remained ruthless throughout. He opened a gap and maintained it all the way to the checkered flag. His fist-pumping antics at the end of the race, confirmed how emotional he still is about the sport and how much he wanted the victory (click below).
The win, marks number three for Stoner this season and the massive points-haul means that Stoner is now equal on points with Lorenzo at the top of the table. The 2012 World Championship race is now wide open! The GP in Germany in a couple days will separate the 2!
