Drag Racing: Back to school-Vernamfield reopens!

There are numerous places or spots on planet Earth which have profound meaning and immeasurable significance to large groups of individuals. A justification for, at times, blind and inexplicable devotion to maintaining the ‘purity’ of the experience at the selected location is not necessary. A common thread exists in all of the like-minded people who visit the stream to access its miracle-delivering crystal flow.

Religious faiths will make mention of areas which are considered holy. Sporting events will refer to a specific event which is treated like the holy grail of the discipline – think the Tour de France for disciples of the bicycle faith, LeMans for endurance motorsports competitors, Monaco for F1 and the list goes on.

Jamaica is still a cub in the huge jungle of world motorsports and we have not yet made a pronounced dent on the world stage, but we have an active local scene. Drag racing is without a doubt, a discipline which has more loyal followers than Niki Minaj has on Twitter, but, in recent times, myriad reasons have conspired to cut the speed of the horsepower-infested machines to a traffic policeman’s, happy limit – zero!

Drag racing, for 2012, was trapped between worlds like Jack Sparrow! With the loss of its sacred ground in Clarendon, thanks to political wranglings, drag racers were fed to the sharks and hope was a distant dream. But change, my friends, is only a determined effort away.

Positive winds blew recently and because I was uncertain of their legality, I kept the evidence of the ‘function’ I attended locked on its memory card. I am now free to release said content and elated to report that Vernamfield, a location that can chronicle the history of Jamaican motorsport, will rid itself of its chains and welcome competitors from 2 disciplines -Tarmac Sprint and Drag Racing on September 30! That is all I am prepared to say at present. What I saw a few weeks in the past was orientation. I will share a few of those images, but say you read it here -  School officially reopens – you have the date – Sept 30. Stay tuned.

Honda Nation!

Neighbours? Hell no! I am actually waiting to flog the blue from his panel!

Showoff!

One good round, deserves another.

Can you spot the machine in this photo?

Thanks Miss Marshall.
