Formula 1: Is this the end of Alonso’s road?

Author : cmunroe

It is my view that Alonso has been having sleepless nights in recent weeks. His recurring nightmare – Sebastian Vettel finishing ahead of him – apparently has eternal life. The scenario plays out in his dream at nights and he has been living the reality more times than he would want to remember.

Despite the suggested handicap (the 2012 Ferrari missed the mark), Alonso had a good first sector of the 2012 season, but when the German, Vettel, woke up, Alonso’s misery was relentless. Vettel caught Alonso in the points race and grabbed the lead.

Two rounds remain and after Vettel’s miraculous, luck-assisted performance in the Middle East, only the most courageous will bet against the 2 times World Champion. The USA GP will mark the return of F1 to the stars and stripes and while others wrestled with grip and speed, Vettel soaked in inspiration from his listening device and then showed why he is the defending World Champion. He will start P1 in Texas.

There are 10 points separating the German and the Spaniard. The German is shooting from the hip and his pole-grabbing performance is a clear indicator that he means business. The Spaniard could not wring front row performance from his dejected steed – he will begin P8.

Vettel can clinch the championship in Texas if Alonso and Scuderia Ferrari do not wake up and smell the roses. Is this the end of Alonso’s road, as it relates to the 2012 championship? We will know in a matter of hours? Bets anyone?
