A loaded weekend – Jamwest, F1 and MotoGP!

Before I ramble away, I have 2 unimportant issues:
1. I cannot count, even if my financial future depended on it, the amount of times I have driven pass the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Library. But, that changed today at about 3:45 in the pm. I had some time on my hands so I decided to visit the temple of reading. I  spent half an hour there. It was a welcome change of routine.

2. Be careful of the bets you make and think about the consequences of losing said bet. During the course of this week, I saw a video of a fellow who was stopped somewhere in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

He was aboard a motorcycle. The cops pulled him over and when he separated himself from his mode of transport, it was revealed that he was only attired in a pair of boots – boots which were not even on his feet – one boot was at its correct location (on one foot) and the other, strategically placed, was acting as a shield over his private and confidential!

He was subsequently charged for a number of things, including – injuring morality! So, there you go, you can be charged for injuring my morality!

I digress no more! The motorsports flower is in full bloom this weekend. I can recall asking a young lady recently what she had in mind to eat. Somewhere, spoken in her response, were the words – ‘loaded fries’. I had no concept of its existence then, but I have since learnt that it is a direct route to a heart attack in the near future! You get a maximum calorie attack in one bite!

So, this weekend is loaded with racing – choose your discipline and it is possibly on the track Saturday or Sunday.

Formula 1

First on the agenda is the spectacle which will descend on a circuit located about 70 miles north of central London. F1 will be the master of ceremony at Silverstone, in Britian. The historians will tell you that F1 first raced at the location in 1950, so its historical relevance cannot be overstated.

Silverstone is holy ground, but that will not prevent the expected merciless battle from being fought this weekend.

Defending world champion, Red Bull’s Seb. Vettel, who has 3 wins thus far in the 2013 season, will be the usual target, but bearing in mind that there are several Britain-based teams on the grid, they will all be gunning for victory. Lewis Hamilton delivered British pride in 2008 -  can he deliver again?

MotoGP

Are you a motorcycle fan? MotoGP is on this weekend as well and the stars of the series will actually race before F1. Their race is on Saturday! The season has seen the ‘big guns’ lock horns repeatedly and the emergence of new sensation, Marc Marquez, has raised the intrigue level to catastrophic proportions.

Prepare for a cracker on Saturday. Yamaha’s maestro, Lorenzo, is riding wounded with a broken collarbone, so new pole-sitter,Cal Crutchlow has a glorious opportunity to put his victory seal on the proceedings, a plan which Honda’s hungry pair of mercenaries – Pedrosa and Marquez will attempt to abort! You do not want to miss the race!

Drag Racing

My final segment will be dedicated to Drag Racing. I am still a bit confused re the state of drag racing on ‘the rock’. Someone needs to explain to all of us what is going on. I learnt that there is an event on this weekend at Jamwest. And it is still somewhat beyond belief that I have to be searching for information relating to the event. Where are/were the advertisements? For what it is worth though, the event is definitely on and all things being equal, the drivers and fans from western Jamaica, who will be at their hometrack – Jamwest Speedway – I am certain, will roll out and pack the house. If I make it to the venue you will be informed.

Is this weekend loaded? You bet! But keep your clothes on!
