There are six explosive rounds remaining in the pistol which is theĀ 2013 MotoGP season. Italy will be the venue for the first of the six remaining mega-parties! Italy, to some, is a place where dreams may be realized. It might not house the City of Love – France holds that honor – but no one will deny Italy’s pedigree when motorsports is mentioned.
Images of the Tifosi, wrapped in flags and dipped in Ferrari red, racing towards the podium at the end of a F1 GP, comes to mind. Their passion loses no steam when the MotoGP machines roar to life and the fact that the most decorated MotoGP rider on the grid, Valentino Rossi, is a product from Italy’s loins, their blind commitment to the sport is definitely guaranteed!
So, the crowd at Misano this weekend, will resemble Woodstock! But, how has Italy’s favorite son been performing? Rossi’s return to Yamaha was seen by his fans as his return to glory but the road has not been as smooth as some thought it would be. Twelve Rounds have exited the barrel thus far. Rossi has had 9 top five finishes including the win in Assen. For the average rider, this would be exceptional performance, but Rossi is extraordinary, so one victory will not be viewed as success.
He is at home this weekend. Competing at home creates an undeniable advantage, even for professionals, so the fact that he is at the track where he first rode a ‘real bike’, the extra horsepower the fans will provide, might just be enough to convince him to repeat his performance in Assen.
