Exciting Racing at Dover: Suggestion 2

Author : cmunroe

This is the second of three suggestions I made, aimed at ensuring that the fans present on race day at Dover are thoroughly entertained.

Jason Britton

I can recall attending a drag race event at Jamwest Speedway in Westmoreland, where Jason Britton and his No Limit sport-bike stunt team were scheduled to make an appearance. The event was advertised as a drag race and stunt show, which would involve local stunt outfits trading skills with their American counterparts. Jason Britton is the host of SpeedTv’s program Superbikes, on which he explores the sport-bike scene at locations in different countries. His team has become world renowned for the amazing stunt feats which they perform when they (No Limit) decide to put their skills on display.

Crazy Bikers

Motorcycles are very popular here in Jamaica and some rural communities have far more bikes than cars. I will admit that the ‘Z90’s’ (scooters, Honda 50 etc.) may outnumber the ‘big bikes’ (sport-bikes), but the sport-bike culture maintains a very large fan base and there are several biker groups island-wide, in Kingston, St. James and Westmoreland. I am aware of the activities of one such group – the Crazy Bikers which has structured training or practice sessions, designed to fine tune their skills and create new tricks.

When the bikers took to the track at Jamwest, the fans took the name of the stunt team (Crazy Bikers) literally – they went Crazy! The stunt teams (local and overseas) were well received and the stunt show added to what was already a fun-filled event.

At Jamwest the sport-bikes were included at a drag race event and the riders performed during the lengthy break between qualifying and racing in the various classes. What was normally an hour of boredom, anticipating the resumption of racing, blew by before the fans realized, because they were kept captivated by highly skilled, local and international stunt bikers.

It is my view that if the bikers are included at Dover in a similar manner, it would assist in making the experience at Dover more enjoyable for the fans.
