The break is now officially over and MotoGp fans can take a deep breath before the nail-biting duel today (Sunday). After resting for almost a month, riders and their respective teams rev into action, as the race for the championship resumes, at the bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal.
Final Phase
The final phase of the MotoGp season begins this weekend in Portugal. This phase has four rounds and with the points race being delicately poised, the MotoGp world knows that a cliffhanger is on the cards. Valentino Rossi knows only too well, how strong his team mate, rival and closest competitor in the championship, Jorge Lorenzo is in Estoril.
Lorenzo stole victory from Rossi at the last outing at Estoril (Rossi came third) but Rossi maintains an enviable record at the track. Rossi’s success at this track is as obvious as a jumbo jet on a two lane highway. In nine visits, he has been on the podium every time and he has graced the top step (won) five times. That is pretty impressive, even by his standards.
A 30 points lead going into the race, thanks to his dominance at the recent round in Misano, may be viewed as a comfortable margin, but as Lorenzo has shown in previous rounds (he has 3 wins for the season), he is just as capable as Rossi and as Indy will hastily remind us, Rossi, despite his seemingly superhuman skills and ability, is human and as such he can make mistakes. Strange but true!
Championship
Rossi is first in the championship and Lorenzo is immediately behind nudging his rear tyre, hoping for a miscue so he can take the championship to the wire.
This race promises to be an interesting one, as all the patients have now turned on the ‘Doctor’ as they attempt to infect his championship ambitions.
