Vengeance 4 –The Beasts Come Out To Play (pt.2)

So much to do and so little time. The events are happening left, right and center.

When racing resumed after qualifying, there was a seamless flow of events for the most part. There were very few delays, including one relating to oil on the track, which required cleaning, an act covered in 10-30 minutes.

GTR

Several races sparked audible responses from the fans. In the 10 seconds class, the pair of Cayman GTR’s lined up against each other. There is a lot of history to this match up and another chapter was written at Jamwest. Patrick, driving the black R32 (GTR), was better on the day. He left Jody (driver of the white R33 GTR) at the line, had a better reaction time and went on to win the race. From where I was standing, Noel ‘Spi’ Rhone was visible, running around with a red hat on a stick, celebrating Patrick’s victory. Spi was obviously elated.

Nine Seconds

In the nine seconds class, Xavier and Craig Lue faced off. But the classic boost propelled all Japanese final, did not deliver on its adrenalin laced appearance. Xavier, still a bit ‘rusty’ as a result of his sabbatical and knowing what was required to defeat Craig, got overly excited – like a child about to receive ice cream and left the line early. Xavier tripped the sensor and was shown the red light, which was fortunate for Craig who left the line late but gained momentum as he progressed down track.

Spi

Noel ‘Spi’ Rhone took his ‘beating to heart’ at the previous meet, at the hands or should I say the engine of Audie ‘Lizard’ Cowan’s Pulsar and decided to return and defend his lost honour. Spi came prepared and annihilated the brave warriors who came in search of glory. Despite a minor confusion in the final, which resulted in a re-run (after Spi was declared the winner) Spi emerged as the victor, defeating ‘Brownspeed’ twice and as such had a successful outing this time around.

The finals of the 10 seconds class promised much, but failed to deliver, as ‘Damage’ cruised to victory when Patrick’s GTR was reduced to a trot, tranquilized by a broken cv joint. This was Patrick’s second final with the same outcome. Maybe 3 will be his lucky number.

Vengeance 4 lived up to expectations and when the skies darkened and hinted its intentions with a light sprinkle, it was evident that the pace at which the races were being called was ‘stepped up’ (admin was on the ball).Fortunately the angels were enjoying the races and so the skies kept the downpour for a later date.

Lueboyz

Lueboyz Racing, not pleased with Jody’s performance, sent him back out after all the winners were decided. Jody’s GTR with its distinctive 6 cylinder baritone, exploded down the quarter and ripped a 9.9 seconds pass! Unofficially, the first Nissan to accomplish a nine seconds run in Jamaica. A significant achievement, when you consider the names of the Nissan tuners who have been at it for some time now.

We left Jamwest a little before night-fall, pleased with the days activities and expecting even more from what should be the final event of the series.

Incidentally, I saw Mr. Windsor Young at Dover (Heroes of Speed) and he indicated that Vengeance 5 is scheduled for November 29 and at this event, all arguments will be settled!
