A lot has changed on the motorsports scene in recent time. There was a time when drivers would compete in several disciplines. So, it would be expected that the ‘big drivers’ would be on the entry list for , a rally event, a drag racing event and the pinnacle of circuit racing on the ‘rock’, an event at Dover.
People who glow with pride when they speak about the ‘good old days’, will remind us about the exploits of Chris Issa, the days when David Summerbell was a ‘factory driver’ and also when we would eagerly await the next awesome machine the Japanese mercenary would bring to Rally Jamaica ( can’t recall his name – but the machine he brought would be snatched by a deep pocket). Those were the days! How many people actually remember that Doug Gore was a ‘name brand’ rally driver! Not many.
The method behind my rant of madness is simple – the individual who will be crowned Driver of the year – 2013 – should, in my view, display a varied skill-set. Who is the driver of the year?
