I was listening a report on BBC recently and I thought I was deceived when I heard that a painting snatched 70 million dollars (US) from the hammer at an auction! I kept listening and as expected, the report was accurate. I am still stunned! Apparently money is floating in locations I am not aware of ! I was reading an issue of Road and Track and forgive me if I am of the view that there is a plot out to embarrass me, but, on the final page sat a Mercedes F1 machine from the ice-age. How much was it sold for at an auction – 29 million dollars! I need to discover an uncle or cousin in Saudia Arabia!
In an earlier blog I mentioned that WRC drivers must be the best in the world. My views might be a tad bit biased because each time I hear a WRC machine, like the Nightcrawler (X-Men), I am taken to another dimension! I am still at a loss at how the disguised insanity – the mechanical and scientific marvel which is the modern WRC machine – effortlessly rattles the pleasure sensors of the brain and delivers an addictive but legal high! We should be scared like children walking through May Pen Cemetry at midnight during a power-cut, when we see the machine, like an out of control rocket, barrel-rolling towards a blind corner on the verge of entering the realm of a frightening accident! Then the miracle occurs – the machine inexplicably regains its composure and then disappears, buried in a hail of pops, hisses and crackles! Awesome!
Vollkwagen Motorsport has not lost a rev yet in the 2014 WRC campaign. It would appear as if a dynasty is in the making – too soon to call – yes I know. Having said that, Monte Carlo released Round 1 and Sweden saw Round 2. And on both occasions VW Motorsport drivers have claimed P1. I am certain the chasing pack is not amused.
The videos relating to each Round are readily available. Dive in. Wouldn’t you agree that rally drivers have all of the fun!!
I envy those bastards!
