Jamaica and Cayman have always maintained a healthy relationship. They (Caymanians) hate to be reminded but, Jamaica was the crown jewel to Great Britain back in the day and the governor who was sent from Britain would be responsible for Jamaican and Caymanian affairs, but he would reside in Jamaica. History (and Geography) brought us together and as such we are a part of one family.
We are accustomed to seeing Cayman drag racers at our events – Jody, Patrick and company and it is only fitting that we attend a few events on their very little rock.
Craig Lue is no stranger to Cayman as he was a part of a feature done by Sport Compact Car Magazine several years ago on the sport car scene in Cayman. Two representatives from ‘yaad’, Dean Shaw and Craig Lue made the trek to Cayman to be apart of a drag race event held today (Sunday).
At present, Cayman does not have a facility like the one we have at Jamwest – a ¼ mile track. Instead, what they have is a 1/8 th mile track. Yes, it is very short but it is not short in the excitement department.
On Saturday, Dean Shaw driving his supercharged Camaro and Craig Lue in his Mitsubishi Evo made their presence known. According to reports, Dean set a new Cayman record with a scorching 5.9 seconds at 115 mph, breaking the track record (6.01 seconds set by a bike earlier), while Craig registered a 6.3 run @ 120mph.Craig had mechanical issues later on during the day but the necessary repairs were done in short order.
I will have to wait a bit to confirm what unfolded today, but it is evident that we are a force to be reckoned with in any field that we set our sights on. Big up Team Jamaica! Any predictions for Jamwest on the 28th of February?
