Driver of the Year! (Part 2)

I am willing to bet that the voices of discontent will be missing in action re- my pick for international Driver of the Year. I hope the trend continues as I engage the Jamaican contingent!

I must admit though that the local motorsports scene is not as colorful or speed-infested as we would want it to be. But, grateful we are and we still have an active circuit racing season, supported by drag racing and a mix of dexterity and rallysport. The constricted motorsports program leaves little ‘wiggle-room’ and as such we have few candidates for the coveted title .

The usual suspects in the circuit racing scene – David Summerbell, Doug Gore and company, did not feature prominently in 2014 for myriad reasons. But, Doug Gore who always has the burden of proving his mettle, rose like the champion he really is and extinguished TA1′s flame by claiming the lap record at Dover Raceway. I am certain the war will continue, but at present, Mobay’s King is in charge.

Where others stumbled, one individual excelled. And in 2014, he expanded his repertoire by exhibiting prowess in a field which his fans will tell you is not necessarily his domain. But guess what? He applied himself, used his available, well-built tools and distanced himself from his peers.

Today’s lecture will be brief! Kyle Speedy Gregg drove away with the overall Drivers title at Dover Raceway and he also had a revealing fling in the orchard and on gravel in Bogwalk and it’s environs. Rally Jamaica 2014 is still in turmoil re- who won, but fans are still talking about Kyle’s drive, which displaced Shifter Kart’s best, then, wounded effort. The chips are still falling!

Yes Ian, the 2014 Driver of the Year is indeed Kyle Speedy Gregg!
