Formula 1: Rosberg has lost his way!

If you are even a casual observer of Formula 1, you should be aware of an unspoken rule which applies to drivers – You are at war! Yes, you are a part of a team and the team’s interest supersedes your own agenda. Agreed.

But, as it relates to your teammate and the drivers’ championship – you are not friends – you are not soldiers from the same platoon, fighting for the common good! On the contrary, you are a one-man band, a sniper, a mercenary, an assassin, who carefully plots and awaits the opportune time to eliminate the target and snatch victory!

Formula 1 can easily recall rivalries that were more ferocious than a chik-v-causing mosquito! So, we would have thought that the usually composed character – Nico Rosberg, who has F1 lineage, would have been more familiar than the average bloke with the Teammate Rules! Apparently he is not an astute student. He has a lot to learn. And if he is not careful he may successfully destroy a promising career.

In 2014, it was felt that he stood a good chance to claim his first drivers’ title. That was until the tornado known as Lewis Hamilton swept through the paddock and distorted the German’s designs. Hamilton’s ruthless approach, unsettled Rosberg, who responded in puerile, unprofessional and uncharacteristic ways. Hamilton won the title!

I should be blamed for thinking that when Rosberg lost the ‘big prize’, he would have sown the seeds, for lessons to be learnt, which would have resulted in a new, more focused approach from the young German, in 2015.

But, the more things change, the same scenario appears! Hamilton has lost none of his brutal pace from 2014 and Rosberg remains in a dazed and discombobulated state when Hamilton appears. Instead of utilising his proven behind-the -wheel ability, which landed him the coveted seat at Mercedes, Rosberg, like Alice, remains trapped in Wonderland, searching for the Vorpal sword!

Hamilton

In the absence of wisdom, folly prevails! So – What has Rosberg resorted to? Rosberg complained about Hamilton’s pace during the recent Chinese GP via the team radio and after the race he leapt from the precipice and threw verbal blows at Hamilton. Rosberg has clearly forgotten that, in motorsports, the race is won on the track! If you are better, faster, etc., than the opposition, defeat him on the track – leave the insults and verbal puzzles for children. Hamilton leads the championship! Rosberg has lost his way!
