Formula 1: Will Hamilton win the Belgium GP?

Rosberg justified the megabucks F1 drivers are paid on Friday. The danger attached to motorsports is known and accepted and we are occasionally reminded in dramatic fashion. During practice on Friday, Rosberg’s rear tyre decided that it will endure no further abuse. The tyre exploded, ripping itself to shreds, oblivious of the fact that Rosberg was barreling along the track at 190mph! Fortunately, Rosberg escaped injury and we are all happy.

But, that did not prevent his teammate from annihilating him during qualifying on Saturday. It should be abundantly clear by now to all F1 fans that current World Champion, Lewis Hamilton has no comparison on the F1 grid. If you are still in doubt, extract the available statistics, examine them and leave convinced!

On Saturday, at a track revered in F1 folklore – Spa Francorchamps – Lewis Hamilton solidified his case for the best F1 driver of the current era. Yes, he is also onboard the best machine on the grid, but his teammate, Rosberg, has the same firepower available to him.

Rosberg will have a restless night (Saturday). He was 1/2 second behind Hamilton, which in the real world, means he was struggling to match Hamilton’s scorching, Sahara desert pace! The average bloke would be comforted by placing P2 on the grid, but if you are a driver for Mercedes AMG, P2 means that you are sucking defeat through a Lewis Hamilton-administered straw!

All is not lost though and there is still a race to be won. The most recent GP has shown that unforeseen circumstances can arise and the most unpredictable of outcomes is always a possibility. Lewis Hamilton is fully aware of what is at stake and he knows that Rosberg will, understandably so, have only his (Rosberg) interest at heart. Williams’ Bottas sits in P3 and Vettel, who has emerged as a realistic threat to Mercedes’ dominance, rides in a distant P9.

At Spa-Francorchamps, Hamilton claimed his sixth consecutive pole of the 2015 season. He maintains a 21 points lead in the championship. Will he win the Belgium GP?
