MotoGP: Valentino ‘The Doctor’ Rossi robbed us?

Author : cmunroe

The 2015 edition of MotoGP will be a constant source of opinion-filled debate. There are too many topics to choose from!!! The 2014 World Champion, Marquez, had a horrible early season. The wolves realised he was not his usual checkered flag-grabbing self and they pounced!

By the time Marquez recovered, the Yamaha duo, led by Rossi were preparing the venue for a World Championship party!! But Marquez fired back and returned to his usual flamboyant but purposeful riding and he regained some lost ground.

Rossi, who was chasing history, rediscovered his inherent abilities and locked P1 on the leader-board. It appeared as if Rossi was favored and it was his title to lose. It cannot be argued that Rossi was not riding like a champion. He was. But that was before the penultimate round of the World Championship.

Rossi went into the penultimate round ahead of Lorenzo but with a minute lead. Rossi, in my view allowed himself to be sidetracked by his perception of Marquez’ intentions re Lorenzo and the World Championship.

The on track rivalries produced cataclysmic battles and like a famished man at an all you can eat outlet, we were elated! The Phillip Island matchup had all the right ingredients- stellar battles and excitement by the truck-load!

With the season winding down and too much at stake, we anticipated more. But Rossi, in pre-race ramblings, prior to ‘Mayhem in Sepang’, made it abundantly clear that his marbles were displaced !

We have accepted Marquez’ No Fear riding style- we love it! So it was inevitable that he would attack whoever blocked his path to P1. He knows no other way! Rossi for reasons not even a ‘shrink’ can justify, while locked in the middle of a bruising firefight, lost his focus! His actions and Marquez’ forced reaction led to contact and Marquez bit the asphalt!

It is my view that at Sepang, Rossi robbed us of what would have been another magnificent MotoGP duel!
