World Cup

Supporters of football’s number 1 team, Brazil, are still being checked out at hospitals worldwide as they fit the Netherlands boot which graciously kicked them off their pedestal and humbled what was in my view, a highly over-rated team. I am in no way sorry for their loss, in fact, I am thankful. It would pain my heart, to see that poor excuse for a Brazil World Cup football team, lifting the trophy held by the greatest players of the modern game.

Formula 1

Formula 1 is as intriguing as it has ever been. There were some who thought that with Schumacher’s departure a few years back, Formula 1 would die a natural death. Who could have predicted that the current crop of drivers would produce the riveting drama we are now witnessing.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch all of the European Grand Prix, but the bit that I saw did not disappoint. Life on the Mediterranean revved up a notch, as Red Bull Racing and the Formula cast of characters came ashore. Vettel, Webber and Hamilton were the holders of the three top spots on the grid and when the red lights faded Hamilton left like a fox at a hare hunt! Vettel’s nerve held, but Webber was left exposed like a featherless chicken. He had a terrible start and his luck knew no recovery, as he went airborne in spectacular fashion and crashed out of the race a few laps later. Statistics do not have favourites and they held when it was revealed that Webber has never scored a point at Valencia!

The 3.3 mile street circuit with its 25 corners, left at least one camp fuming – Ferrari. But Vettel had no complaints and as if to indicate that he went nowhere, he secured victory and rekindled his championship fire. Hamilton, in the view of many got a huge break from the stewards and as such he was able to grab second, stealing much needed points to maintain his championship lead. Hamilton and Button are on home turf for the next round. Should we expect any McLaren fireworks as they try to impress their fans?
