Webber victorious in Hungary

Formula 1 is on its self imposed break, so we will not have the pleasure of hearing the V10s scream like frightened patrons watching a horror flick, for another 2 weeks. A long wait, but at least we have the most recent Grand Prix to review.

The tight, twisting, Monaco-like, difficult to pass, Hungaroring, was the venue for Round 12 of the 2010 F1 season. Despite being dressed in a negative light, stemming from a team ordered victory for Alonso, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro continued their resurgence, by securing third and fourth in qualifying behind the pace setting Red Bulls of Vettel and Webber.

Vettel stormed away at the start and only the deployment of the safety car on lap 15, for debris on the track, could put the brakes on the Bull. The front-runners pitted, Webber stayed out, gained track position and with Vettel stalling the pack for the restart,Webber escaped.

Champagne

Webber clicked off incredible times on his old set of tyres and when Vettel received a drive through penalty, which was served on lap 32, the champagne was left to chill for Webber.

Vettel’s misfortune opened the door for Webber and Alonso. Webber jumped at the opportunity, continued his warp speed pace, got the gap required, pitted and returned to the track, still in the lead! Alonso sneaked into second and when Vettel caught him on track, the stubborn Spaniard summoned everything Maranello had to offer and kept him(Vettel) seeing red – Alonso would not yield the spot.

Webber didn’t put a wheel wrong and what better way to celebrate your 150th Grand Prix start than with a victory and the lead in the World Championship. Well done Mark Webber! Spa is next – August 27th – 29th.
