Formula 1: Whose light will shine in Singapore

Author : cmunroe

When Lee Kuan Yew drafted his master plan to transform his tiny city state – Singapore – I don’t think F1 was factored in. But Bernie is a genius, so Round 15 in the series, Weekend at Bernie’s, will unfold on Singapore’s streets, at night!

A street circuit which demands perfection from the drivers, errors aren’t forgiven but fans receive a delicacy – they can see the blue flames exiting the exhaust of the F1 machines from the over run.

The championship is interestingly poised, with 5 drivers, Webber, Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Vettel, all in with a shot at the main prize.

Webber

Red Bull faltered a bit at the last two GP’s, Spa and Monza, but there is no question in the minds of the F1 gurus that this is a circuit which favors the Red Bull chassis. This circuit welcomes a high down force configuration, creating the ideal condition for the Red Bulls to gore the competition into submission. Webber, the leader of the championship, enjoys a model-thin lead of 5 points ahead of Hamilton who had a horrible session at Monza.

With so much at stake there is even more pressure on the teams to perform under what must be hypertensive inducing conditions. Reliability is of utmost importance to secure points paying spots and a grip on the trophy.

It will all play out at F1’s only night race. A location which is often remembered for the nasty episode involving Flavio Briatore and Renault in 2008, will on Sunday, be the scene at which, the gang of five will trade rpms as they debate about who will emerge as the clear leader of the 2010 World Championship. Don’t miss qualifying!
